QR2: (q12) Melanie South WR 369 lost to Viktoriya Tomova (BUL) WR 489 by 4 & 1 bleh

L32: Tara Moore WR 246 v Lisa Whybourn WR 289 - H2H 0-1, 3 sets, Wrexham 2010
L32: Samantha Murray WR 263 v (wc) Christina Makarova (USA) WR 895

To add insult to injury as far as the all-GB draw is concerned, the winner is likely to play the top seed in R2. doh

Makarova is the 16-year-old who thrashed Nik Slater 0 & 1 in Phoenix qualifying last last year and is currently ranked 16 in juniors.

Mel... She has the ground strokes to be doing better than this - top 250 is where I see her ending the year if she can revive her confidence. The problem is that she will probably need to take a step down again to 10K level (which I presume she will do next month in the 3 tournament run in the uk), but she seems to be in a good groove with Tara as a doubles partnership (Wimbledon WC anyone?), but Tara will hopefully be playing 25Ks and above for he rest of the year, so I'm worried that Mel will keep playing 25K qualies and continue to slip down the rankings and with it further damage her confidence.

Mel had mentioned being unnaturally tired after Rancho Mirage, but, still...

Might be an interesting test for Murray then.

In doubles, like singles, Tara plays best friends - the people she's rooming with at this event - and would meet the top seeds in R2. A quirky draw all round this week. hmm

Moore/South (GBR/GBR) vs. Lim/Ejdesgaard (FRA/DEN)
Murray/Wienerova (GBR/SVK) vs. Kudryavtseva/Lazareva (RUS/RUS) - winner to play #2 seed next!

I'm confident Sam will have much too much for her opponent. Last week was fascinating in that Sam played very well for a set and a half, but then her serve (and some aspects of the rest of her game) just went AWOL. Against a lesser player, like Makarova, Sam would have won handily anyway. And with a stonking serve, I'd say Sam would be up there with JoKo and possibly ahead of her.

As for Tara and Lisa, they shoukd read Chris Everts article on how to play against a friend on the Tennisspace website. Don't look into the other player's eyes seems to be the key to it!

dubs
R1: Moore/South (GBR/GBR) defeated Lim/Ejdesgaard (FRA/DEN) 6-2 6-1
QF: Moore/South (GBR/GBR) vs. Craybas/Vrljic (USA/CRO) [1]

Play starts at 17:30 UK - Sam's singles is 2nd on her court; Lisa vs Tara is 4th - Sam's at least should be live scores

If my maths is right, this match has now been going for over 3 hours 30 mins! 5-5 third set. Whoever wins will be shattered for their next match against Lisa or Tara.

An amazing turnaround by Makarova sees her take the second 6-4
Worrying now...

Tara vs Lisa up soon on the other court

Pavlovic finally takes it - felt like that could have been the final.
It looked as though the 4th on Tara/Lisa match might get on before the 2nd up Sam match!

No chance for Tara to avenge last weeks defeat by Kovinic if she gets through then, just the #1 seed for her or Lisa ...
Sam up soon.
