FQR: Laura DEIGMAN (GBR) [q7] 1014 lost to Melina FERRERO (ARG) 1122 0-6 3-6

Laura's opponent hadn't reached beyond the L16 of a $10k the whole of last year, and has no form in particular.

Happened to dip into the scoring on this match and Laura was 0-6 0-3 down in no time at all, only managing 1 point for every 3 of her opponent until the Argentinian lost 3 games in a row (Laura won 3 games in a row; sounds better), then normal service was resumed thereafter.

This result, combined with those in Sweden this morning (Sabrina and Jess) really brings home the lack of depth on the GB women's side, once again. Junior prospects aside, once you get past about 10-12 on the GB rankings, it's a very very average group of players.

I just wanted to position things fairly ahead of the potential (well almost inevitable actually) LTA spinfest lauding the strong state of women's tennis in Britain in April, should we make the next step up into World Group II - "A Golden Age" anyone?

Farah & Laura will both still play dubs though not together. both their pairs meet WC in R1 so hope for progress - really scraping the barrel for some positive
