Don't know why Kyle has chosen Murcia/Cartagena for the next two weeks, but personally I think it is an excellent decision. After all, it means I get to go and watch him play wink

Won't be able to do "live scoring" on site. Modern technology hasn't reached Spain yet - or more precisely, it hasn't reached ME yet, but I will try to give some match reports later on.

Murcia last year was where Kyle first came to my attention as he thrashed Mark Vervoort 6-0 6-4 in QR1. Looks like this year he has a chance of making the MD automatically, although it is touch and go. From a selfish point of view, I am sort of hoping he is in the qualies as it is much easier for me to get down there at weekends. But if he makes the MD directly, I won't be unhappy.

Kyle now upto 2nd Alt for MD in Murcia, but today is the cut-off day.

Currently 2 SEs likely to be used up, and unfortunately both are below Kyle in qualies and playing week 7 QFs as we speak: 1 won easily (actually he won Mallorca 1 last week w/o dropping a set, now into SF w/o dropping a set!), the other already a set up. But I'm not sure the results matter, as I don't know how either could have made it to Murcia by the cut-off time late this afternoon anyway, win OR lose.......

Assuming 4 WCs, 2 SEs and 8 Q places, there's just 1 place left in the MD for someone in the qualifying lists.........which would mean Kyle just misses out and is #1 seed in qualifying!!!!!! Unless there is a very very late withdrawal during the day.

Alternatively, my maths is wrong and he sneaks in, but don;t think so

Not only will Josh be seeded, but Dan ought to make MD for both $15ks, this week and next. Which points out an oddity (or is it). Kyle's 3 week Spanish trip of $10ks might require him to win through qualifying 3 weeks in a row, and then face fields including a stack of top 300 players, and a few top 200 players. Meanwhile over in the US, he would qualify handily for both $15k MDs automatically, and then face fields with top seeds around the 250 mark. Perhaps Kyle is being grilled on a diet of clay, clay, clay. But interestingly, this doesn't seem to be the strategy of the other juniors or recent pros, who have schedules on clay and hard courts, indoors and outdoors. Which seems more balanced from an experience perspective, as well as freeing up more potenital tournaments, many of which with lighter draws. I don't get it personally, anyone else have a perspectiv?

The schedules are decided by the coaches and I dont think they study the strength of potential draws as much as we do. It is all about surface and convenience. I am a firm believer that the sooner players compete in better tournaments the better, but to be eligible they need points. In this respect I think weaker tournaments initially puts their ranking up quicker allowing them to gain experience of playing in Challengers etc sooner.

i asked Alex if he was going to go to USA f5 (which obliviously he isn't). he said he thought it was going to be really windy there, so will be interesting to see how the lads get on.

Yep. Right now it's more nailbiting than a third set tiebreak. If he misses out, I think it will be the 2nd time in a row he will end up as Nº1 seed in the qualies. Just wondering however, if having not played a match for about 3 weeks, he might appreciate a couple of qualie matches as opposed to the possibility is drawing the top seed in the MD in the first round.
