Amanda Carreras plays a tournament on a surface other than clay!

Two late WC's mean that Mandy is not the #1 seed, as had looked likely. Any run of MD wins between now and the end of April should see Mandy climbing up and up and setting new CH's along the way.

She will also be playing in the doubles with Beatriz Morales Hernandez (ESP).

Disappointing lack of Egypt based puns so far so: Amanda has a phar-aoh draw here and should make the next round.

That's pretty poor though so surely someone can do better.

Mandy also won in doubles 7-6(4) 6-3

In the QF they meet #1 seeds Marozava/Pashkova (BLR/RUS)

More singles wins will jump her up the rankings pyramid, whether by Luxor by judgement. If so, we'll just have to exclaim "Giza!, Mandy well done!
I hope no one Suez me for emotional distress because of the awful tortured puns, or I sphinx I'll have to call my lawyer.

I hope Amanda pushes on this year again, like last year. It was good following her, as she made regular progress.

 She is proving to be so far - Amanda lost the 1st set 6-4, recovered by taking the 2nd 6-2 but is an early break down in the 3rd 1-2*
