Weeks 2-3 - Australian Open men's qualifying 2013 & JB in main draw

Both Brits have drawn unseeded clay court specialists, which is about as good as we could have hoped for as far as QR1 is concerned.

QR1: Jamie Baker WR 246 v Julio César Campozano (ECU) WR 222 (= CH)

(q19) Matteo Viola ITA & former top 5 player (q9) James Blake (USA) are the seeded players in this section.

QR1: James Ward WR 247 v Boris Pashanski (SRB) WR 172 (CH 55 in 2006, best known here as Chris Eaton's Wimbledon R1 victim in 2008)

(q14) Yuichi Sugita (JPN) & (q18) Denis Kudla (USA) are the seeded players in this section.

RE: Week 2 - Australian Open men's qualifying 2013

Jamie is 3rd on Court 14 after 23.00 GMT (so probably about 02.00 GMT) and James 5th on Court 15, probably after 05.00 GMT.

QR1: Jamie Baker WR 246 beat Julio César Campozano (ECU) WR 222 (= CH) by 3 & 5 biggrin

Jamie has now won his last 8 sets in AO qualifying, having not played at Melbourne Park since he qualified in 2008.

OEM, who is there, says: "Jamie Baker wins first rd of qualies 6-3, 7-5. A cooler day which suited and he played some pretty stylish stuff with Andy M in attendance"
