2013 WTA rankings milestones

The first WTA rankings of 2013 and already there are some milestones to report!

(they've been updated for 7 January on the app and on the archived old site http://bit.ly/RA76cu but not on the new site yet, which is amusing ...)

Laura becomes the first Brit to make the WTA singles top 50 before her 19th birthday since Annabel Croft in 1985 (1)

Heather moves up to WR 47, the highest WTA singles ranking any Brit has reached for two decades! (2)

This is the first time GB has had 2 players in the WTA singles top 50 simultaneously for more than 25 years (3)

Remarkably, the career highs of last year's Fed Cup team now read:

47 Heather
48 Anne
49 Elena
50 Laura

(1) At least, I assume Annabel made the top 50 before July that year because she had won San Diego by then and was ranked 24 at the end of the year.

(2) This is deliberately vague because I can't find any mid-year rankings from that time - Anne Hobbs was ranked 42 at the end of 1987 so it must have been after that but may have been 1988. However, Jo Durie ended 1991 and 1992 ranked 60 so she may have been ranked 46 or higher at some point in 1990-3.

(3) Jo Durie & Sara Gomer in mid-1987 - the WTA tweeted this recently if I remember right.

One milestone I almost missed - Heather has made it into the WTA doubles top 50 for the first time too (up 1 at 50)
