I am struggling to see why the LTA should give Alan Mackin a job nor do I buy this idea that there are "best coaches" from which he has acquired great insight. Coaching is a relationship between two people, a simple principle which rather explains why coach X can have great success with player A but have no impact when trying to assist player B. Of course the LTA made a huge error in paying ridiculous money to the former coaches of Sampras, Agassi etc so that they could assist British players and indeed british coaches. A wiser investment would have been spending £50 on Tim Gallwey's series of books on the art of coaching and if they could afford another £35 then Flaherty's book on coaching and Egan's The Skilled Helper would also have been sensible purchases.
