US Open Rejig

"Stupid Saturday"  -  love it

I used to think that it was shortage of courts that caused the first round to take 3 days, but I don't think that washes since most if not all the courts are lit so they can play till late on.

Probably now rain on the final Monday !

Apologies if this is covered elsewhere but I'm speechless at the US Open's attempt to sort their scheduling.

The mens's final on a Monday, really, that seems a good idea does it ?

I think we mostly could agree  'something needed to be done' and a roof and scheduling changes would help.

But this looks like an own goal of epic proportions.

I would have thought just playing the first round over two days and not 3, as other slams do, and having the semis on Friday so that the final could be on Sunday, would be better. It's "Stupid Saturday" that causes the problems mostly.

I don't mind it being Monday, Sunday nights are quite busy for moi.

I know it causes difficulties for prior week tournaments, and the players aren't that keen, but I've always wondered why Grand Slams don't start on the Saturday or Sunday, thus creating 3 weekends worth of matches and potentially easing congestion later in the tournament. I believe the French already starts on the Sunday, so why not the US Open. Surely better than scheduling a Monday Final. How cretinous is that!
