No Alex Ward this week (he didn't enter in the first place, so clearly always intended his East Asian trip to end with Cambodia F2) but Richard Gabb should be seeded and Joshua Jones is also a DA.
Two new Brits in qualies this week - 18-year-old twin brothers. Marcus has recorded a win in Futures qualies before, against an unranked Russian in Nottingham Fut. QR1 a few weeks ago, where Oliver got double bagelled by unranked Brit Tom Allen in the same round.
QR1: Marcus Gan UNR v Sanjar Fayziev (UZB) UNR - winner to play (q4) Markus Kerner (EST) WR 1325 in the FQR QR1: Jathan Malik UNR v Khalil Naji (MAR) UNR - winner to play (q7) Mico Santiago (USA) WR 1891 in the FQR QR1: Oliver Gan UNR v Hsu Hung-Yuan (TPE) UNR - winner to play (q8) Sergey Shipilov (UZB) WR 1920 in the FQR

Oh well! Richard really has played A LOT of tournaments this year to accumulate his haul of points, with 1 $10k SF only to show for it, along with a few QFs. Just off to check the highest ranked player he's beaten, but I'm guessing nobody inside 400, possibly even 500. Hope I'm wrong, bet I'm not. Another $10k next week.
Having checked, I make it 2-12 against top 500 players in 2012, his only 2 wins against Brits - Alex and Fitzy (who he's no doubt played against or practiced with before). Good that he is now into the world of being seeded, but if you have almost no joy against top 500 players, and scatter in lots of wins and losses to lower ranked players, its a long old slog without a lot of upside. Just looking for one match or one tournament with a sign of magic.
