Steven. Do you know if Samuel Beddow is related to Robyn Beddow, currently in the women's top 25? The fact that this event is in Bradenton (Bolli-wood!) suggests he might be at Nick's Academy and I believe Robyn was a trainee there. Robyn is interesting (or perhaps bizarre) as we see her popping up at qualifiers for big events all over the world (never UK) and sometimes getting lucky with byes, walkovers, unranked opponents, etc to pick up a few points, but also having some spectacular losses too. Sorry to say this, but the scoreline in Samuel's match against a mid-ranking junior isn't that promising either. And his record in ITF qualies this year has a similar, bizarre/lucky ring to it: he's lost heavily for the most, and only had 3 wins in Q1 matches all year, of which in one his opponent was 14 (just!) and in one another his opponent was 67!!!!! Any background info?

No background info, I'm afraid, but I'm pretty sure we worked out that Samuel is Robyn's brother.

QR3: Alex Sendegeya beat Pedro González (VEN) by 6-1 1-0 ret.
QR3: Tom Hill beat Benn Marler (USA) by 2 & 5

FQR: Alex Sendegeya v Naoki Nakagawa (JPN)
FQR: Tom Hill v (q5) Jon Wiegand (USA) WR 1826

Nakagawa upset the seed in Alex's section, Djordje Djokovic, in QR2.

Bambo beat Vasilevsky 6-4 7-6 (7-4)

Maybe this week is Luke's chance to step out of the shadows, with no Kyle or Liam. A run to the latter stages could be a great morale-boost for him. He's certainly capable, although his next match against Ryan Thacher, who beat Liam in straights last week, won't be easy.

Yes, nice one Luke

L32: Luke Bambridge WR 893 beat (7) Andrei Vasilevsky (BLR) WR 662 to 6-4 7-6(4) biggrin

L16: Luke Bambridge WR 893 v Ryan Thacher (USA) WR 1165

Thacher was the guy who beat Liam last week. He's not a teenager and has never been in the top 1000 so I assume he's another misleadingly-ranked just-out-of-college boy.

A tweet from Martin Weston 10 minutes ago and a response from Luke suggests he won, unless Martin is still talking about yesterday!

Yesterday's tweet said "great job today" and today's says "well done again" and was tweeted just 53 mins ago, plus according to flash scores they were due to play today, so I'm hopeful....

He didn't just beat him ...

L16: Luke Bambridge WR 893 beat Ryan Thacher (USA) WR 1165 by 2 & 0

QF: Luke Bambridge WR 893 v (2) Daniel Garza (MEX) WR 360 (CH 294 in Apr)

H2H 0-1, Garza thrashed Luke 0 & 1 in Winnipeg in August.

That's a very good result. So each of the team has had a chance to shine in at least one tournament. A nice division of labour.

Let's hope. But as Steven pointed out, Garza handed out a 0 and 1 thrashing to Luke only 3 months ago, so I'd be very surprised (and delighted) if he won this next one. Expecting a big improvement for sure, but with the previous scoreline, suggests this could be one of those awkward match-ups for Luke.

Talking of which, here's a strange circular run of results over the last 4 weeks of the US futures trip for our 3 teens.....showing how you can never be certain about results!

Luke destroys Thacher in 2: 0 and 2

2 weeks before, this same Thacher beats Liam convincingly in 2: 4 and 4

Liam had just beaten Kyle easily in 2 the day before: 3 and 1

But Kyle beat Luke easily the week before in 2: 5 and 1

Go figure........
