Week 45 - ATP World Tour Finals - London (Indoor Hard)

Why would you not want to come to a tournament where you get $25,000 just for turning up?

Group B

(2) Max Mirnyi & Daniel Nestor (BLR/CAN)

(4) Robert Lindstedt & Horia Tecau (SWE/ROU)

(5) Mahesh Bhupathi & Rohan Bopanna (IND/IND)

(8) Jonathan Marray & Frederik Nielsen (GBR/DEN)

Fleming & Hutchins are the first alternates after the Poles said they didn't want to come.

Who knows? But great for Fleming and Hutchins. A pleasant financial boost, to say the least. And really good for them to experience it, even if they don't play, so that if they are there next year, they know what to expect.

I see Jonny Marray has broken into the doubles top 20 today for the first time! (up 2 at 20)

Jonny Marray has moved up two places to WR 20 after last week in Paris.

He is the first of the current group of British doubles players to get into the top 20, though there are other CHs in the 20s :

Jamie Murray CH 23 ( current WR 79 ), Colin Fleming CH 24 ( current WR 27), Ross Hutchins CH 26 ( current WR 28 )

Mirnyi & Nestor win the first match in Jonny's group 4-6 7-6(1) [12-10], Tecau unlucky to be on the losing side despite being the best player on court.

Stepanek is apparently struggling with injury, so if he and Paes lose their first two matches, I think they might withdraw and give Fletch a match as Stepanek has the Davis Cup final to play next week.

I see they had MP at  6 - 4   6 - 5 *  40 - 40  ( don't know if they've had any others, edit : I assume not since stats just show one BP in the second set ).  Saved to take it into the TB

So now either the second set TB or the MTB please !

Great recovery in the MTB.

* 1 - 5 down to 8 - 7 * up to * 8 - 9 MP down and 9 - 10 * MP down to winning both points against serve so * 11 -10 MP up and 12 - 10   smile

With that win Jonny moves past another 3 players in the doubles rankings ( that are not here ) to provisional WR 17 ( edit : ah, I see that I am on the same wavelength as seagull, basically he's now behind the other 7 pairs here and the "bloody Poles" )

The boys break to 30 in the tenth game of the first set to take it by 6-4.  Keep it up for just one more set, lads!

I hope the bubble isn't about to burst:  Bops & Bhupathi take the second-set tie-break by 7-1 to level the match.  Squeaky-bum time! hmm

phew.gif  Jonny & Freddie nevertheless make their World Tour Finals debut a winning one, having spurned a match point in the twelfth game of the second set (*)  :

(8) Jonny Marray & Frederik Nielsen (DEN) defeated (5) Mahesh Bhupathi & Rohan Bopanna (IND/IND) by 6-4 6-7(1) [12-10]  biggrin

(*)  Apparently, Jonny caught the net with the return on that match point!

Why is it that watching numbers tick over on a computer screen can make me feel so nervous ?
