2012 - Greatest Ever British Sporting Year - and not bad for tennis

YES, that's the Ryder Cup won with a tremendous comeback. And I think GB can claim a rather large share in it and it means a great deal to many Brits.

And we've hosted and done very well in tremendous Olympics and Paralympics.

And Bradley Wiggins became the first Brit to win the Tour de France.

And in football Chelsea won the Champions League against all odds, and Manchester City won the closest ever Premier League, coming from behind with two goals in injury time in their final match.

And I believe horse racing fans reckon Frankel is rather a good racehorse ( or even the greatest there's ever been ! )

And it's been not bad in that tennis sport :

Andy Murray wins the first GB men's singles Grand Slam event since 1936

Jonathan Marray wins the first GB's men's doubles title since 1936.

Andy Murray is the first GB men's singles finalist at Wimbledon since 1938

Andy Murray wins the Olympic men's singles title  ( that's the first GB gold medal in tennis since 1908 )

Andy Murray ( him again ) and Laura Robson win the Olympic mixed doubles silver medal

..and Laura really breaks through with such promise of much more to come.

Anyway, not a bad year, and for all round sports fans the time of our lives  biggrin

And we're only at the start of October yet  wink

Rory Mac winning the PGA and dominating the world of golf not to be sniffed at either.
SPOTY could run for the whole week to cover this year of sport :)

Indeed.  My apologies to Rory  ashamed   ( and anyone else I have missed out ).   So many, and that is without going individually into the Olympians an Paralympians.
