Apparently Laura had already reached her maximum quota of 2 WCs so wasn't able to get another one here. Not sure about that, I thought you were allowed about 6 WTA MDWCs in a year and as far as I'm aware she's just had the 3( Wimby Bastad New Haven ) Anyway probably a blessing in disguise.

Having just fought my way through the rule book, relevant bit is bottom of page 59 and top of page 60. 6 is the max for WTA + slams but only 3 main draw (the rules for top 10 players and players who have played on the tour for 10 years is different). As you mentioned Laura has had 3 already.

Steven does record seeding positions and WCs in the individual points from the rankings / stats section :

Edit :  apparently just WCs for the women, but that is what you were after  smile

I believe Hev will qualify.
After winning her 1st match it is eithrer Hlavackova or Vandeweghe.
Andrea had a fine USO, but I think her game is a good matchup for Heather.
Coco hasn't done much since Stanford finals. Though, actually, neither has Heather since about then, but I feel she's close.

The equivalent WC Laura got last year has gone this year to Eugenie Bouchard, now afull time professional. I suspect whoever the hot young (photogenic) prospect is next year will get the Tokyo director's nod too.

It's a shame Laura might seem punished for her success this week by having to withdraw from a bigger event, but I don't think she should receive a WC 2 years running at the same tournament, without truly extraordinary circumstances.

Don't the women have SE positions like the men?

Edit - never mind, the answer is in the Guangzhou thread.

Cheers, kundalini, we'll let Tokyo off then for daring not to give our Laura a MDWC when they err couldn't.

Heather's last singles match was played in Montreal (5 hours behind BST) and now she plays in Tokyo (8 hours ahead) and yet both matches have the same 2am BST start time - the schedulers are not making it easy to follow her matches live.

Heather:

holds-30 1-0*
1-1
Heather broken to love 1-2*
breaks back 2-2
holds to 30 3-2*
3-3
4-3*
breaks for 5-3
broken to 15 5-4*
breaks to 30 6-4

2nd set:

Heather holds to 30 for 1-0*

Lara A-V holds to 40 for *1-1

The betting right now has Heather at 1/12 and Lara A-V at 8/1. The current difference in points won is 1.

Long game Watson holds eventually to 40 for 2-1*

Lara A-V holds to 30 for *2-2 total points won HW +1

Heather holds to 30 for 3-2*

By the way, the draw has changed (according to the bookies rather than the official drawsheet) so that Giorgi is now facing Coco Vandeweghe and not La Robson

Should Heather progress she would then face the winner of Hlavackova and Sema (not Vandeweghe as originally stated)

Lara saves at least 2 bps before holding to 40 for *3-3

Watson's most comfortable service game to date, holding to 15 for 4-3*

Lara saves at least one bp before holding for *4-4

Heather holds to 15 for 5-4*

Rain delay

Lara holds for 5-5

Heather holds for 6-5*

Game went to 40-40 but didn't notice any mps for Heather 6-6

1-0 2-0 3-0 I go to clean my teeth, come back and it's still 3-0 ?

7-4 it finishes

Is there somewhere quick and easy to lookup how many WC's a player has had or is it a case of checking the entry for all their tournaments?

I have lost sleep and fallen over with exhaustion in the wee small hours trying to work out the arcane methodology of seeding, ranking and wild cards.
I thank God for the likes of Steven who seem to come up with an answer when I have totally lost the plot.
