It is Monday 14th of August and Andy is back on top again.

Eight wins in two weeks have pushed Andy to the edge of the top 20 but Djokovic has entered Cincinati and he has a better draw than Andy. Looking at the previous pattern of results I expected him to win some matches this week but will he win enough?

Tuesday 10th October.

Novak Djokovic has once again confirmed his status as Andy's true nemisis by regaining the lead in their personal duel. Unfortunately while the Serb was winning his second career title in Metz Andy uncharacteristically lost first round two weeks in a row.

Next up for both players is the Masters Series in Madrid.

i really think that the so called DUEL, AND DJOKOVIC being andys nemesis has been created by you lot. I wonder is anyone else in the world aware of this relationship. answer probably not, and a being andys nemisis is far fetched. Ok if he wins 3 games to 0 against andy then yeh but they havent even played. I think it would be a great game as novak dosent make many mistakes solid, but andy has alot more flair. But in the confines of this forum i totally understand the stuff your talking about. the grapg is very impressive

the reason why this was done was because they were born about a month apart (i think), so to see both being tennis pros at the same time is really interesting! djokovic may not be his nemesis, but to us he is! because they both want the same thing, Grand Slams and WORLD No. 1! im in no doubt that djokovic IS andy's closest rival! its just like roddick and hewitt, they are both rivals, as they turned pro roughly the same time! theres no tennis without any rivalry!!

I find the graphs fascinating.  The fact they were both born within a week of each other, both entered the rankings within a week of each other.  And have followed each other up the rankings into the Top 20, closely ever since, each one taking taking the lead for a while and then constantly overtaking each other.  And also that they are apparently close friends too, makes it even more intriguing.
I agree "Nemesis" is the wrong word, and I'm sure Niall would be the first to admit that, but no one expects posts to be scrutinised too closely for linguistic errors.  "Duel" is good word for it though.
Keep up the good work Niall.
I love THE grapgs.

Several message boards follow the progress of the so-called "young guns". I think it is the fact that these two are so close in age and experience which makes this particular comparison so fascinating. I used to get quite annoyed earlier on when people were comparing Andy to Monfils and Gasquet, who at the time were doing much better - because Monfils and Gasquet are nearly a year older and joined the main tour well before Andy, so I felt the comparison was unfair.

The comparison with Novak cannot have any "well, but" s about it.

Correction, Andy played and lost against Djokovic in last year's Davis Cup tie against Serbia and Montenegro

Correction, he didn't play singles at all. Greg played tipsarevic and djokovic. Arvind Parmar took on Djokovic and lost because Andy was injured and only returned on the Saturday for the doubles.

Despite a good start Andy couldn't defeat Djokovic in their first ever meeting.

And spookily despite a great start to 2007 so far Djokovic is always one step ahead.

This is some rivalry.

According to Rob's thread about Andy's competitors, Novak has 50 points coming off this week, so he swaps places with Andy .... and with the U.S hard court season coming up..  I'd say it looks good for Andy to stay ahead.
