Josh tweeted today: "Playing Chiswick to Fund St Remy. That's how my scheduling works. Not Ideal. But no choice! starts Tuesday at Riverside. Come support."
A reminder that scheduling has more constraints then we sometimes think.

I certainly accept that financial considerations play a part in scheduling and obviously I have no idea about Josh's personal situation. However he picked up £14,500 (before tax) at Wimbledon and has added about £6K since then (including US open qualies) so I really find it hard to believe that he needs decent money from Chiswick to pay for his trip to St Remy.
maybe he was paying off overdrafts / debts / family / friends
Oh absolutely, I don't in anyway suggest that the financial situation for someone like Josh is straight forward. I just find it hard to believe that after having a very successful spell (from a financial perspective) that he quite literally needs his Chiswick winnings in order to pay to go to St Remy. Call me cycnical but if he was to lose in the first round here I reckon we would still see him turn up at St Remy (where he would of course pick up about £300 just for showing up). So anyway my point was that his tweet probably aluded to the genuine difficulties players like him have financing their careers as opposed to being literally true. Humble apologies to Josh if I got that wrong, no offence intended.

I don't think it really matters if he adds another GB futures win to his record. Next week in St Remy and the week after in Luxembourg are far more important IMO. He has a strong points base for a sustained run at chalenger level, hopefully he can make the most of it.

Alway helps But yes, in general I agree about the points base and one point I've made in the past when folk have said such as Cox and Milton should stop winning loads of future points and play challengers. Much better with a points base. Then you know you can play a sustained number of challengers even if initially unsuccessful.
It is also a good thing about the fact that you can get a higher ranking from futures points as against probably some "better" challenger players. This allows players to have that base.
Some people getting to critical of Josh's scheduling at the moment. Calm down guys, he will move on to challengers when he feels good enough in himself to make that decision. If he wants to play a future, dont jump to conclusions, he gets money, definite match practice and points! Its that or a week off

I don't think anything has criticised Josh for playing Chiswick, in the absence of a hard court challenger in Europe it makes sense. If he had also entered Roehampton and Nottingham I would have been critical, as it is I am pleased that he will be playing St Remy and Luxembourg.
