Mallory Burdette is a top college player at Stanford, so will have been used to the courts and would no doubt have a WTA ranking if she hadn't been at college. There is no getting away from the fact it's a shocking result though.
It means that unless Laura wins the title in Palermo, which would be an even bigger shock, Heather will be GB no. 1 next Monday. I would say she has clearly been the best of the Brits this year but given how few points she picked up in the second half of last year, even I didn't think she'd make it to GB no. 1 quite yet.
It's a bit of a pity for Hev that the R1 matches were played in the order they were - now it looks like she got there because Anne lost, whereas if Anne had lost on Monday then Hev had won on Tuesday, it would have looked far more like it was because she won!

terrible result for anne maybe fatigued after wimbledon and the travel. i think her wimbledon result shows she cannot cut it with the top girls sorry but true
