Weeks 22 & 23: French Open (Roland-Garros) (red clay)

R1:  Elena Baltacha WR 67 vs (6) Sam Stosur (AUS) WR 6 bleh

R1:  Anne Keothavong WR 76 vs Melinda Czink (HUN) WR 116 (winnable?)

Main draw here.  Many thanks to Jan for providing the PDF link on the qualies thread ( ):  I couldn't get it, however often I tried clicking on "printable draws" on the RG site!

Anne's match is winnable and is a very good draw given what she could have got. Probably 50/50.
Also in a section where the 2 seeds are struggling.

Horrible draw for Bally - But she did get a favourable one last year so I guess these things work out. Stosur does also have a couple of first round shockers on her record so we can always hope

Given the circumstances of her defeat yesterday it would be very nice if Laura could get a lucky loser spot. Is it wrong to hope someone gets injured?

Pretty horrid draw for Bally, though when Stosur is off I think she can he very off.  However, she has had a lot of good draws in the last year or two, certainly compared to Heather and Laura.

Bookies certainly giving Anne and Heather decent chances at effectively 1.6 / 1 against and  1.15 / 1 against respectively,  i.e. outsiders in their matches but not really big outsiders.

Liking the unofficial official news re Laura.

Good point - Laura should warn them before setting up the trip-wire in the changing room!evileye

It takes a lot for a player not to play in a main draw of a GS, so the injury would have to be very severe indeed. Even if the Spaniard thinks she can't finish the match, you'd think that she would still walk onto the court for the prize money alone.
But we'll see.

Apparently Soler-Espinosa has gone over on her ankle so might have to pull out so might mean good news for Laura. She would play Medina-Garrigues if so.
