There is a question on the Beeb board about Anna Smith, age 17, who up to now was a British player (in fact, she played last week in the Sunderland Challenger as British.
However, the WTA website, who apparently did have her as British, now list her as Swedish! Does anybody know if this is a mistake, or has she changed her allegiance.
Any information gratefully received and I will post it back on the Beeb (referencing this site of course )
It must be a mistake as Anna lives in Sanderstead in Surrey. She's never played a single tournament in Sweden and receives wildcards into tournaments from the LTA and there would be little point in the LTA giving her them if she was Swedish. If she had changed her nationality she would be entering tournaments in Sweden to get wildcards from the Swedish tennis association.
Aw! that's a shame, they were a good pair, and I really liked Nicole's 'pep' with Anna's sanguinity. Wish Nicole well.
But, it's quite a coup for Anna, Peschke is a very good, solid, quality partner of long-standing success - 28 WTA doubles titles, >$5M doubles winnings, WR21 Former world #1, in 2004.
She was at the Singapore WTA Finals this year. It speaks quite well of the regard Kveta has for Anna if she is willing to partner up with her.
I wonder what happened to the longtime partnership that Kveta had with Anna-Lena Groenefeld then.
She is 42 though, so probably not a long-term option. Also, 5'5'', quite short, not sure how they'll work on court.
Still, could be a very useful partnership. Best wishes for 2018.

Data I post, opinions I offer, 'facts' I assert, are almost certainly all stupidly wrong.
Naomi is no doubles slouch though and she's not a million miles away from a Joss type player. This is either a temporary fix for the Aussie or Naomi is getting more serious about doubles.
Anna & Nicole Melichar have split up, with Nicolemoving to play with the veteran Kveta Peschke. Anna has entered AO with Naomi.
Oh!
I still wish Nicole well! Need to see then who Anna links up with later on in the season. The partnership with Naomi could work pretty well, but I doubt Naomi will be at the right sort of events enough to be the regualr partner.

Definitely will need a long term partner, I cannot imagine Naomi focusing on doubles any time soon as the rewards for being a top 100 singles player far outweigh any potential doubles earnings. Would like to see Anna get a settled partner as soon as possible, the arrow was definitely pointing up last year and it would be a shame to lose momentum now.
I saw this re-posted on Twitter:

Get well soon Anna. I wondered whether Xenia might have been able to swing them a cushy deal in Gstaad this week, and was sad not to see them there. This makes sense of that. This seems to indicate a determination to keep playing on, about which I'm delighted. She's admirably made lemonade from the lemons life dealt her when her early singles career looked so promising.
A very good role model for what can be achieved, even in adversity.
Will miss her exploits until return - not least because for long stretches recently, she has often been our only, or deepest surviving representative in any given WTA week.
Will anyone step up to fill the later days of the week with WTA interest? We have a super group all primed and ready to make their best effort.
What's going on with Anna, anyone know?
Was hoping she'd have been back by now, the interest in doubles, or even, for most weeks, on the WTA generally, this year has been sorely missing with her absence.

Yes, I've been wondering that too, but no-one has mentioned anything here. All I remember is Anna describing it as a 'little knee operation' on instagram or something immediately after, and then she was in one gym photo with others recovering around November - Gabi, Laura, Jodie, maybe - and that's been it that I have seen/ heard.
