Cox, top 450 early last year, was on a 4-match losing streak before this event but won through qualifying with 3 bagels and 2 breadsticks in 7 sets and then, as you say, took out the 3rd seed in R1.
Ed is actually the highest-ranked player left in his quarter now that Ouellette is out - the other seed withdrew so the winner of Ed's match will play the winner of a WC v Q match, the WC having beaten another WC in R1 and the Q having beaten a LL.

So what? I'd been checking three sites for yesterday's results from about 10 pm, fell asleep in front of the local election coverage & woke up only to find that Steven had beaten me to it by 26 minutes or so! At least he left me the scraps of the detailed doubles results to feed off!
