I had thought it was already pretty much assumed that Andy and Jamie weere intending playing doubles together at the Olympics.

In an Radio 5 Live question and answer program with the Murrays a couple of months or so ago, Jamie was fairly clear that he wanted to, whilst Andy mucked about a bit with such as he was thinking playing mixed might be quite cool, but I got the clear impression he was well up for the bro combination.

I'm not clear re rankings ( would Andy's singles ranking count to Olympic doubles entry ? ) and WC possibillities whether they need to be playing together quite as much as they have been recently.  Maybe just want the practice together

We have a top class singles player teamimg up with a limited doubles player--------------panto season is early this year

I do get fed up with Jamie's endless partner changes and don't like seeing him playing with Andy, but "limited doubles player" strikes me as a bit unfair.  I guess it's all relative.

although I'll be miffed if they do
Flutchkins out of a place I can understand that it would be a cool thing to partner your bro at the olympics.

It does seem a little unjust, but the fact remains that he wouldn't be where he is now if Andy wasn't his bro....

Basically it's like normal tournaments singles rankings count the same as doubles. Singles is used for seeding as well.

maybe a bit unjust I do support all Scottish players but I think after winning Wimbledon mixed doubles Jamie Murray believed the hype that he was a top class doubles player. He threw away a good pairing with Buterac and also Colin Fleming now has no regular partner.

The question is who would play with him regularly because he always ditches them to play with Andy.  Personally I feel Jamie should have tried to play singles for a longer period to test himself out but when the going got tough Jamie baled out. He didnt want to play futures singles with his brother on the main tour.

Yeah, I agree scottie, he is up himself, and I certainly wouldn't want a partner that just bailed when the going got tough to play with little bro.

He was no good at singles, which is easily apparent from his lamentable - for a pro - ground strokes.

I would like to think that I would have sufficient pride NOT to keep hanging on to my far more talented brother's coat-tails. But money talks, I guess. (And let him who is without sin cast the first stone ...)

agree with you ratty seen him years ago in edinburgh trying to serve volley on clay against ian flanagan with the murray entourage shouting encouragement his ground strokes were awful but at least in doubles he only covers half a court.

in doubles he should have tried to get back with colin fleming when he came back to the tour but maybe colin was not good enough in jamies eyes at the time

Maybe he did try to and it was Colin (who does seem to have a lot of sense) who thought once bitten, twice shy - you never know.

R1:  Andy Murray & Jamie Murray defeated Kevin Anderson & Frank Moser (RSA/GER) by 4 & 4

*****

R2:  (7) Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi & Jean-Julien Rojer (PAK/NED) vs Andy Murray & Jamie Murray

Not an insurmountable hurdle, methinks.  No doubt famous last words, but still,  th_fingers-crossed.gif .
