Good chance for Lewis to get some ranking points in the next 3 weeks here and potentially bag a first singles title

Tough draw for Jack. And he needs to make the most of his chances as he has tweeted to say he "forgot" to send in his application for Week 2 and is only playing in weeks 1 and 3 (unless he can wangle a WC).

I see the qualifying draw was full last week but I would have thought they might be able to see their way to giving him a WC for qualifying when he has come all that way for all 3 weeks and apparently made a genuine mistake.

If he sign's in for qualifying he will get in on ranking - don't use qualifying lists as such for entry

I know they didn't used to use qualifying lists for the men but I thought they did now. Surely the whole point of knowing you are on the qualifying list is that you know it's worth making the trip, otherwise why have them at all? I think page 8 of the ITF rulebook http://content.yudu.com/Library/A1vjyz/2012ITFProCircuitrul/resources/index.htm?referrerUrl=  confirms this though it's not crystal clear elsewhere in those rules.

It may be that if any of the players on the original main draw or qualifying acceptance lists don't sign in for qualifying then it is opened up to those who do sign in, in ranking order, whether they were on the original alternates list for qualifying or not (again, it's not completely clear), in which case it's virtually certain he would get in.

Do has played the odd Vietnamese Futures event since, but hardly plays on the circuit at all. However, he is Vietnam's most successful Davis Cup player ever http://www.daviscup.com/en/teams/team/profile.aspx?id=VIE, though it could be argued that's not saying a great deal ...

Typical - the one result I copied off the forum without checking it for myself today (I saw Jack had beaten the 3rd seed and thought I'd better tweet it in a hurry in between meetings, no doubt the typo above was for a very similar reason too! wink) and it's wrong - someone has just pointed out that Jack won 1 & 4 ... which happily makes it an ever better result biggrin
