FQR: Gregory Howe [GBR] d. Abdulrahman Alazzam [KSA/w.c] 6-2 6-0
R1: Joshua Jones [GBR] WR 1057 vs. Fahad Al Saad [KSA/w.c] UNR R1: Matthew Short [GBR/4] WR 821 vs. Goncalo Pereira [POR] WR 947 R1: Ashwin Vijayragavan [IND] WR 1606 vs. Gregory Howe [GBR/Q] UNR
Doubles:
L16: M-A.Kepler / A.Lazov [GER/BUL/2] vs. J.Jones / M.Short [GBR]
Will try give it a good shot. Unfortunately missed out on the 2 qualifying spots against the Saudi wildcards, but then again avoided a couple of the seeds so can't complain.
L32: (Q) Gregory Howe UNR lost to Ashwin Vijayragavan (IND) 1717 by 2 & 1
Not only was the Indian not one of the plum Saudi WC draws, he has also been ranked a few hundred places higher and has been playing college tennis, so may well be playing as if his ranking was in 3-figures at the moment.
Onto Doha qualifying next week for another chance, I assume?

Doha is 50-50 as I'm meant to be back to the reality of work next week, although the event is at the ATP complex which is good. Otherwise it's a series of money tournaments in the UAE and get some much needed form for the summer.
R1: Joshua Jones & Matt Short UNR defeated (2) Mark-Alexander Kepler & Alexander Lazov (GER/BUL) WR 1969 by 3-6 6-1 [15-13]

QF: (WC) Zaki al Abdullah & Abdulmalek Burasais (KSA/KSA) UNR vs Joshua Jones & Matt Short UNR
The only pair left in the competition with a world ranking are the third seeds, Filenkov & Roy, who would be Joshua's & Matt's opponents in the semi, should both make it that far!
L32: Joshua Jones WR 1053 defeated (WC) Fahad Al Saad (KSA) UNR by 0 & 1 L32: Gonçalo Pereira (POR) WR 947 (inactive, according to the ATP!) lost to (4) Matt Short WR 801 by 3-6 6-7(8)
*****
L16: Joshua Jones WR 1053 vs (Q) Omar Awadhy UNR (*)
L16: Alexander Lazov (BUL) WR 1247 vs (4) Matt Short WR 801
(*) Awadhy took out the seventh seed, Lucas Renard (WR 879) today!
No luck for the Brits here today, though Joshua did pretty well to take 7 games off the top seed.
QF: Joshua Jones WR 1053 v lost to (1) Jordi Samper-Montaña (ESP) WR 373 by 5 & 2 QF: (4) Matt Short WR 801 lost to (5) Antoine Escoffier (FRA) WR 811 by 2 & 2
