Aberdeen cup

hi im new here and recently read an article about a competition between scotland and england called the aberdeen cup. It seems to have only been played twice with scotand winning both times (yay) and i was wandering what had happened to it. It seems like a great idea.

Was it cancelled due to lack of interest/ funding/ scotland thrashing england and the organisers being a bit embarressed. thanks for any answers

Think it was just an idea that was very much linked to Andy's arrival on the scene.

He was never really likely to play in such a competition in the longer term, and in the unlikely event that he did, as was indicated, his own matches would probably not have been hugely competitive.

Otherwise, I just think there really wasn't enough general public or media interest in the cup as a contest, or the other men, women and juniors that would have taken part, to make it really viable.

Probably because it was so 1 sided probably contributed plus I doubt there'd be much interest to pay back the amount needed to use the AECC if there was no Murray. People barely fork out to go see Aberdeen play let alone tennis players the majority have never heard of.

It was one-sided all right, and that was when England still had Rusedski to play for us! Now, Murray v Ward? Hmmm, perhaps not. Also I doubt if Andy could fit it into his schedule these days.
