Week 12 - Challenger (€42,500) - Bath (indoor hard)

Stephen Crawshaw played in qualifying for both of the last two GB Futures - he's based at Bath, which no doubt explains the WC here - http://www.teambath.com/2011/04/03/stephen-crawshaw/

Full Q draw

QR1: Miles Bugby WR 1320 lost to Yannick Reuter (BEL) WR 482 by 6-0 7-6(4) (YR v (q1) Illya Marchenko (UKR) WR 268 next)
QR1: Alex Slabinsky WR 643 v Marcus Willis WR 734 (winner plays (q8) Simon Stadler (GER) WR 463)

QR1: Lewis Burton WR 633 beat Richard Gabb WR 903 by 7-6(1) 6-3 (Lewis v (q2) Marek Michalicka (CZE) WR 329 in QR2)
QR1: Nicholas Jones WR 1606 v (wc) Marshall Tutu UNR
QR1: (q7) Chris Eaton WR 390 v Arthur de Greef (BEL) WR 542

QR1: (wc) Sid Hazarika UNR v (q3) Michael Ryderstedt (SWE) WR 331
QR1: Jack Carpenter WR 1115 v Keelan Oakley WR 1879
QR1: Oliver Hudson WR 1124 v Nikolaus Moser (AUT) WR 479
QR1: Sean Thornley WR 601 v (q5) Jan Minar (CZE) WR 362

QR1: (wc) Neil Pauffley UNR beat Toby Martin WR 874 by 2 & 2 (Neil v (q4) Timo Nieminen (FIN) WR 333 in QR2)
QR1: Ed Corrie WR 676 v (wc) Stephen Crawshaw UNR
QR1: (q6) Richard Bloomfield WR 370 v Michal Milko (SVK) WR 1357

Jamie Baker is a definite DA here and the LTA site says main draw wild cards have gone to Josh Goodall, Dan Smethurst, Oli Golding & Liam Broady, though Josh may have just scraped in as a DA - he was ranked above the top seed in qualies at the cut-off date.

Main draw

Would you believe, all 5 Brits are in the top half of the draw

L32: (WC) Oliver Golding WR 616 v (1) Andreas Beck WR 96
L32: (WC) Dan Smethurst WR 413 v Qualifier (winner plays the winner of the match above)

L32: (WC) Liam Broady WR 778 v Romain Jouan (FRA) WR 228 (winner to face (3) Brands or Hernych)
L32: Jamie Baker WR 247 v Marius Copil (ROU) WR 260
L32: (WC) Josh Goodall WR 264 v (7) Dusan Lajovic (SRB) WR 199

Being thankful for small mercies, the draw is not quite as strong as last year, when Tursunov beat Beck (who had upset top seed Mahut) in the Final - the seeds are ranked 96-200 c.f. 93-135 last year. However, it'll be a big (if very nice) surprise if we get a semi-finalist again like Evo last year.

Qualies draw here.  WCs for Marshall Tutu, Sid Hazarika, Neil Pauffley & Stephen Crawshaw (never heard of him!).  So far, Miles Bugby has lost to Yannik Reuter (BEL) by 0-6 6-7(4), Lewis Burton has beaten Richard Gabb by 7-6(3) 6-1 & Neil Pauffley Toby Martin by 2 & 2.  It's beginning to look as though Neil is well & truly on his way back! wink

De Greef thrashed Marshall by 1 & 1. cry

Sean had a few BPs in the first set, but was unable to convert any of them:  4-6 *1-1.

Rather a pity that Bloomfield, Corrie and Pauffley are all competing for the same qualifying place. Ideally would have had two of them in the q1 and q3 sections.

Nieminen, the q4 seed, though I think is vulnerable so I at least hope one of our guys takes that place.

Sean bows out by 4 & 4, which means that Ed Corrie is now our only chance of a qualifier for the MD & he'll face Timo Nieminen (q4) tomorrow.

Ta for the info about Crawshaw.  I knew someone would help me out eventually! wink  I rarely bother looking that closely at qualy draws, so that would explain the blank when I saw his name! ashamed

Marcus defeated Slabba by 7-6(2) 4-6 6-4 & will play Stadler in QR2.  Crawshaw currently 2-3* agin Ed Corrie, while Marshall has beaten Nicholas Jones (presumably not the actor who played the oily Jeremy Aldermarten QC in Kavanagh QC! wink ) by 3-6 6-2 6-2 & Chris Eaton is a set down (5-7) agin Meneer de Greef, but *2-1 in the second ( ).

I guess that kind of "bunching" is inevitable in the qualies at a home Challenger, Indy. hmm  Agree with you about Nieminen...
