Week 11 - ITF ($25K) - Clearwater, FL, USA - Hard

Hev and Laura may well be seeded in the main draw here so to coin/mangle a phrase, let's hope for deep runs in Clearwater! (ashamed)

QR1: (q6) Naomi Broady WR 192 v Nastja Kolar (SLO) WR 275 (CH 232 last Aug)

Kolar is 17 and is concentrating on senior events now but was junior world no. 4 in May 2010.

The winner will play (q13) Ashley Weinhold (USA) WR 250 or Alizé Lim (FRA) WR 301 in the FQR.

Looks like a riduculously strong field for a $25k. Most the players here will be more concerned about finding form ahead of Miami next week rather than the points on offer.

Heather and Laura are both in the situation of badly needing a win or two to boost their confidence, so hopefully they get decent 1st round draws.

Surprisingly, Lim upset 13th seed Weinhold today to end a 9-match losing streak in singles stretching back to the autumn.

Saved a MP, but I'm not too optimistic, just doesn't seem to be Naomi's day after getting out to an early lead.

I wonder whether Hev/Laura will team up for the doubles here, would make alot of sense you would have thought. Good FedCup prep and also more matches. Only stumbling block I can see is Laura's low doubles ranking, which may mean they may need a WC.

Laura plays Mijacika whom I believe beat her last year in China via a retirement, whilst Hev plays Puchkova.
Both in the same quarter, but if both players get there, I think it would be cause for celebration anyway.

Hev playing with Naomi in the doubles.

Hev plays both her singles and doubles tomorrow, singles at 2GMT probably covered by Bet365.

Doh! (I thought, when I saw the draw) but yes, you're right, after the last few weeks both of them getting to that QF match would be a mini-triumph in itself.

You're right about Laura's previous match against the Croatian, Mijacika (WR 208), who beat her 4-1 ret. in Wenshan.

Puchkova is WR 187 but was ranked as high as 32 in 2007 after reaching two WTA tour Finals in 2006, in which she suffered three bagels in 4 sets, first v Hingis in Kolkata (0 & 4) and then a double bagel loss (the first ever in a WTA Final) to Bartoli in Québec City.
