It's not like Morgan to (potentially) get the top seed in R2, is it ...
(this is the 3rd time in his last 4 events that he has been on line 3 or 4 of the draw - he has of course beaten the top seed in R2 both previous times!)

L16: (Q) Denis Yevseyev (KAZ) WR 699 lost to Morgan Phillips WR 495 by 4 & 4
QF: Morgan Phillips WR 495 vs (7) David Estruch (ESP) WR 423
I guess the big surprise is that Morgan had to face only the Kazakh qualifier, Yevseyev, rather than the Spanish top seed, Olaso (WR 204), in the second round. He must surely be in with a vague chance of taking out the seventh seed in the QF...

Hopefully more than a vague chance - he has beaten Estruch in straight sets both previous times they played, though they were back in 2005/6.

SF: Morgan Phillips WR 495 vs (Q) Marco Cecchinato (ITA) WR 608
Cecchinato won by the retirement of his opponent (a Serbian fellow qualifier), too, though in the third set. I hope Morgan doesn't now go & fall flat on his face in good old traditional British fashion...
I hope not too because none of the seeds made the semis! Someone ranked outside the top 400 is going to win this tournament, he is hopefully thinking why shouldn't it be him!

Yep, no more likely to fall flat on his face then those of other nationalities unless he himself believes some of this British wimpy attitude that some seem to.
We lose more than others when we should win, we lose more than our fair share of tight matches etc etc. Never seen stats to back any of such stuff up.
