Week 6 - WTA ($220K) Pattaya City, Thailand - Hard

QR1: Emily Webley-Smith WR 266 v (q8) Wang Qiang (CHN) WR 247

H2H 0-1 - Wang won 0 & 3 in Wenshan 50K qualifying just under a year ago.

Anne, Hev & Laura all on the main draw entry list here, I believe.

Not a great draw but at least Laura has a very winnable first round match and Heather only faces the lowest seed.

This is the first time Laura has Direct Acceptance into a WTA tournament, a good sign of the progress she has made recently. Hopefully she will achieve another first, as she is yet to get beyond the last 32 of a WTA event (or a Grand Slam).

Nightmare draws for our 3 in main draw.
Anne v Cibulkova, Hev v King and Laura to face Zvonareva in R2 if she beats Amanmuradova in R1.

King maybe the lowest seed, but she is in very good form and on the upgrade.

I would hope Laura can take the win

I've never been very impressed by King so i think Heather has a decent shot in that match

king is one of those players who people may not be 'very impressed' by, but she deserves respect for the results she gets. she is under ranked imo.
cibukova will be difficult for anne.
laura has a great chance of beating amanmuradova. she's very hot and cold, mostly cold of late (i think).
cant complain that it's zvonareva next because when you scrape into main draw, it's asking quite a bit to get two good potential draws.

King isnt a bad player but her game is not the kind that should totally over-awe Heather. She definitely has a chance, hopefully boosted by the Fed Cup results too.

Laura should win, Akgul is a good match up for Laura.

Tough for Anne, but again a bit of extra confidence might make things interesting.

Oddly perhaps, Anne has a 1-0 head to head against Cibulkova - she beat her in 3 sets at a 25K in Glasgow back in 2005. Cibulkova has just helped Slovakia qualify for the Fed Cup semis though, so she is likely to be on a post Fed Cup high too!

Anyway, tough draws, but there can hardly be a better time for them to have a pop at some higher-ranked players

Official reason given for Laura's withdrawal is back injury, so hopefully just a minor thing picked up just travelling to Pattaya.

Mike Dicko has just tweeted that Laura tweeked her back at the Fed Cup last week.
