Kindlmann is ex-WR 130 and had beaten Josh all 3 previous times they'd played, so maybe he was simply playing closer to WR 130 than WR 579 today.

You may well be right, as he's still in the doubles & through to the semi-final, albeit courtesy of a walkover:

Interestingly, that walkover was one of three handed out by seeded pairs in the QFs, so there are none remaining! disbelief One player in each of those pairs is still in the singles competition, while only the fourth seeds, the Romanians, Daescu & Mergea, actually played, losing to Miles' & Josh's SF opponents by [8-10] in the MTB...
