Well, at least Colin found himself an OK doubles partner
Must have been close to being seeded. In the current rankings, the 8th seed's ( Mattek-Sands & Tecau ) joint ranking total is 30, whilst Liezel & Colin's is 31 ( 1 + 30 ). Though Colin did move uo 3 places for this week, so probably slightly bigger difference the previous week.
Watched the match not because I was particularly interested in the result but just to see Jamie's level of play. It was mostly shoddy returning and middle of the box serving. He was the only one broken in the first set after Spears hit his serve for a return winner on break point.
Fyrstenberg was serving for the match at 5-4 second set and had 40-0 but they broke back. Went to sleep after that.

Who would dispute that this is the appropriate response to a doubles match?
I have a theory why they still have doubles, which is that it fills up all of the outside courts. Nobody actually watches, but it creates a buzz of activity - much better than acres of deserted space.

The day on Rod Laver began with Maria Kirilenko retiring from her singles R3 match with Petra Kvitova when 6 - 0 1 - 0 down, which I assume was far from unconnected with a change of opponent for Liezel and Colin to some familar doubles names.
R1:
Liezel Huber (USA) & Colin Fleming (GBR) beat Racquel Kop-Jones & Eric Butorac USA) 7 - 5 6 - 2
Colin and Liezel's quarter final match is scheduled for the Rod Laver Arena following Djokovic vs Ferrer ( which is due off at 7.30 pm, i.e. 8.30 am GMT )
