2012 Team AEGON Announcement

The list is out. Includes Tara Moore but no sign of Whybourn, Milton or Baker.

Also missing out - Borwell, Carpenter, Farquharson, Gabb, Hewitt, Keddie, Skupski and Smethurst.

In - Burton and Evans.

Cost cutting efforts partly to blame for reduced list?

No Broady's; I know there was an issue, but it just is ridiculous.

Did they not choose to reject the funding?

Yes, I believe they did previously. But this year, both of them having done so well, and worked so hard,  you would have thought efforts would have been made to resolve things.

Yes, they were offered it last year. LTA even went to publishing them in the offical list.

I imagine they just made it clear that it wouldn't be accepted this year. Anybody know what the contract looks like? Are they specific requirements or LTA promotional activites you have to undertake?

Happy to see Tara on the list, especially after getting snubbed last year when it appeared certainly results wise that she had done enough. Now with the full funding hopefully she can kick on and play at a high level for the full 12 months and get near to the top 200.
Surprised to not see Ken Skupski or Peter Ashley on the list, especially as there are a couple that might count themselves lucky that they are.

Oh yes, I had forgotten about Peter Ashley. He is certainly a lot more deserving than Keddie was last year. In fact, he's a lot higher in the rankings than Sapwell and a few months younger.

Any way we can find out why he is missing from the list?

Great to see Tara included.  I had some doubts given her year has actually been very much like last year, slow first half, much sronger and consistent second half, with not a huge rankings improvement and a year older, although definite signs lately that she's generally at a new level. But maybe some non ranking matters have been reassessed in her case.  Given that slow first half this year, she already had a real chance of significantly improving her ranking in the first half of next year. Hopefully this will help as an additional boost to really spur her on.

Don't see a lot to argue about really in the senior choices.  To me, there's no immediately obvious why him / her and not him / her to me. Evo has not come on as many would like, but then he's still ahead of A Ward and Cox in the rankings among the 21 yos.  Naomi Broady of course, but especially after last year her and Liam not being on the list not at all unexpected, though rather sad.

Re the juniors, yes, there has to be some story behind Peter Ashley's omission.  Born August 1996 and inside the junior top 200 with clearly good results. 5 months younger and about 150 junior ranking places higher than Sapwell.

The girls also have to my mind one strange omission, not as obvious as Peter, but still illogical purely on rankings, i.e. Harriet Dart, who I mentioned last year as comparatively unlucky last year, and I'd say even more so this year.

The comparision I'd make is with Pippa Horn, 10 months older than Harriet, who is someone I have been following her results with interest, but has not had as good a year as I'm sure she hoped for since coming back from injury in March, although a bit  better latterly.

Pippa Horn ( dob 28/9/95 )  JWR 223  best 6 singles and doubles taken from 11 singles and 10 double stournaments

Harriet Dart ( dob 28/7/96 ) JWR 259, best 6 singles and doubles taken from14 singles nad 13 doubles tournaments

( has I'd say impressed generally and at Barnstaple in October lost a 3 set qualifying match to senior WR 347 Shinikova of Bulgaria )

Harriet also really has a very similar recent junior record to Katie Boulter ( born 4 days later 01/08/96 )  and JWR 233.

Quite a few of the junior boys may feel a bit unlucky given real strength in depth with a few other 1994 boys going to be quite well within the new January top 100 and 1995 boys not far outside the new top 100 that are not on the list, but I guess no other particular standout omissions.

Bear in mind that Pippa spent half they year out with a serous ankle injury, but I agree Harriet is very unlucky to miss out. Sapwell's inclusion surprises me, not just over Peter Ashley - there are 17 better ranked boys who aren't included.

Sapwell did win Eddie Herr or Orange Bowl last year though so I've nothing against his inclusion just surprised that Peter who has progressed more recently having also won one of the biggies at the end of last year being excluded.

Apart from Ellie Dean are junior girls are not a strong bunch so IMO Katy, Katie and Pippa are fortunate to get full funding. Harriet I don't think deserves it either but should have been included if the other 3 are.

Thanks all for clearing this up. I was spitting feathers under the impression that the LTA was still being idiotic. Now I realise it's just the Broadys.

Can someone let me know what the original issue was (and when), and why they are not accepting help now. Surely they're not still sulking?
