Week 45 - ATP 1000 - BNP Paribas Masters (€2,750,000), Paris (indoor hard) - doubles

Our top doubles players are playing musical partners! disbelief  I suppose it's one way of getting both Colin & Ross into a Masters tournament! wink

R1:  Ross Hutchins & Andy Murray vs Nicolás Almagro & David Marrero (ESP/ESP)

(the Austrian eighth seeds, Oliver Marach & Alexander Peya, lie in wait in the second round, if they get that far)

R1:  Colin Fleming & Jamie Murray vs Feliciano López & Fernando Verdasco (ESP/ESP)

(the seventh seeds, Bops & Qureshi, lie in wait in the second round, if they get that far)

The boys are in different quarters of the same half of the draw.

Have to say I don't quite get the logic, wouldn't Flutchins get in on their own merit?

Apparently not - there was some info about it over on Andy's forum.

Hmm, very generous of Andy to play mix and match with the doublers to allow them all some fun in Paris.

Well who knows the politics and sentiment behind it. Andy used to prefer playing iwth Ross than Jamie. I'm never sure whether he just plays with Jamie cos he feels he ought to to help him.

And Murray (J) and Fleming were consistent doubles partners before Mr Fleming briefly became an energy trader, weren't they?

PS: Feel sorry for sometime honorary Brit Butorac and his doubles partner Rojer. They passed the Poles in the race last week .... but then get a draw which gives them Anderson/Isner followed by Nestor/Zimonjic ... whereas the Poles get seeded with a first round bye and then one of two relatively non-threatening pairs. Ah well.
