The winners of the first two matches meet in R2. Emily beat the poor man's Hurricane Hev in Darwin, though hopefully it will be Lisa she meets in R2. Mel and Samantha are both in the same quarter and both will be looking to avenge 3-set defeats they suffered in Darwin to the same opponents.

All three GB matches went with rankings (Mel plays on Wednesday) but I'm guessing that Lisa must have survived at least one match point here!

R1: WHYBOURN, Lisa (GBR) 432 beat SANDERS, Storm (AUS) Q 752 by 2-6 7-6(8) 6-4
R1: WEBLEY-SMITH, Emily (GBR) 5 266 beat BILLETT, Erin (AUS) Q UNR by 3 & 3
R1: MURRAY, Samantha (GBR) 476 lost to ZANIEWSKA, Sandra (POL) 7 311 by 4-6 6-0 6-4

R2: WEBLEY-SMITH, Emily (GBR) 5 266 v WHYBOURN, Lisa (GBR) 432

H2H (at ITF level) 1-0 to Lisa, winning a 3rd set tiebreak in Woking last year.

As at Woking last year, Lisa prevailed in 3 sets, but this time none of the sets were close:

R2: WHYBOURN, Lisa (GBR) 432 beat WEBLEY-SMITH, Emily (GBR) 5 266 6-1 1-6 6-0

Lisa will probably play top seed Sacha Jones (NZL) WR 228 (CH 157 last year) in the QFs, assuming Jones gets past Chinese qualifier Sun Ziyue today. Having said that, the unranked 15-year-old pushed former top 50 player Nakamura WR 221 to 7-5 in the 3rd in the final qualifying round at the Beijing 75K in August, so it's not a foregone conclusion.

Btw Lisa says she had to save 4 MPs in that R1 match against Sanders!
