QR1: (q2) David Rice WR 430 v Stephane Costes (FRA) UNR
QR1: (q6) Sean Thornley WR 575 v Maxime Tchoutakian (FRA) UNR
Other seed in Rice's section is (q7) Baptiste Dupoy (FRA) WR 616. Other seed in Thornley's section is (q4) Adrien Bossel (SUI) WR 510
Big week for Rice. He is defending 28 points this week and only got two of them back in Wrexham so he face losing nearly a third of his points if he doesn't do well here.

Looks like there was no play at all Sunday as all QR1 matches are listed for Monday (they were originally listed for Sunday). Presumably there was rain.
Thornley plays Antione Escoffier (FRA) WR 1307 in QR2. Rice came through his QR1 match and plays Romain Mathieu (FRA) UNR next.
Both of these matches look like being played this evening. Final Qualifying tomorrow + some first round matches (including Evo) + some first round doubles (including the one that interests us).
They are a full day behind because of rain on Sunday but are only using 3 courts which seems very strange.
Be interesting to see how much Rice & Thornley's progress in doubles now determines their destinations.
eg. more challengers and like here try and get into singles main draws via qualifying ? and that maybe having an adverse effect on their singles rankings, hopefully not.

It is an interesting debate in general as to when a player should make the decision to be a doubles specialist.
Perhaps the best chance for someone like Sean to have a really good career, getting to play in some of the big events, is through his doubles exploits.
I raised this topic a few weeks ago. Anyway they are back to futures for the next couple of weeks. Hopefully they can switch between the two levels for a while.
