L64: Kyle Brassington WR 1421 v Pedro Zerbini (BRA) UNR L64: Edward Corrie WR 1252 v Bongani Ndimande (ZIM) UNR
Zerbini reached a doubles CH of 634 last year after reaching the Final at the Campos do Jordao Challenger with a w/o in the semis. He has played Futures qualifying once, Challenger qualifying once, and ATP qualifying once (losing 1 & 6 to ex-top 100 player Jimmy Wang at San Jose this year) and was a top 150 junior in 2006.
Ndimande has just one result on ITF - a 2 & 1 lost to Filenkov (CH 780 five years later) in South & Central Africa Satellite qualifying in 2003, when he was 15.
All this suggests that Zerbini might marginally be the favourite against Kyle and Edward should probably be looking to open a bakery ...
DL32: (8) Edward Corrie & Daniel Cochrane v Vatzy & Antso Rakotondramanga (MAD)
Their opponents are twins, not the Rati Thais but the Rako Mads!

L64: Kyle Brassington WR 1421 lost to Pedro Zerbini (BRA) UNR by 7-6(2) 6-3 L64: Edward Corrie WR 1252 v Bongani Ndimande (ZIM) UNR - Monday
DL32: (8) Edward Corrie & Daniel Cochrane beat Vatzy & Antso Rakotondramanga (MAD) by 4 & 3 DL16: (8) Edward Corrie & Daniel Cochrane v Jun Ito & Sho Katayama (JPN) UNR
Although the Japanese pair is unranked in doubles, they are both ranked in singles - Ito has a singles ranking of 867, having reached the Final of Guam F1 (nice work if you can get it ) and Katayama has a singles ranking of 864, having qualified for the Kyoto Challenger then won a round.

It turns out that Kyle was a break up in both sets yesterday ... oops.
Edward, meanwhile, did not disappoint as far as bakery goes and with today's 499-place rise in the rankings, he is ranked higher than his next opponent too, despite the latter being seeded:
L64: Edward Corrie WR 753 beat Bongani Ndimande (ZIM) UNR by 0 & 0
L32: Edward Corrie WR 753 v (16) Bruno Rodriguez (MEX) WR 860

It's often known as the "World Student Games" over here, as it was when it was held in Sheffield in 1991 (the reason why most of the good sports facilities Sheffield now enjoys were built) and got lots of coverage in the media - it's held like a student Olympics with winter and summer versions every two years and seems to be very big in Asia, where the majority of the recent ones have been held and where many of the tennis gold medallists have come from.
At the last one in Belgrade in 2009, Max Jones and Dominic Inglot won the silver medal in the men's doubles, while Dominic teamed up with Samantha Murray to win a bronze medal in the mixed.
So it's of some interest, though I might not have bothered to start threads for it had there been a few more Brits in action elsewhere this week!

What is Ed Corrie's next move after his stellar performance in that Futures event? Playing a university event at the age of 23 is a bit crap, but I don't imagine he is paying for it (must be expensive!).
It'll be interesting to see how he performs next time out, whenever that might be.

Think that is a bit harsh. It is likely the biggest event they have ever been part of and simply being part of it (22 sports and 150 countries) will, at the very least, be an opportunity you would be stupid to pass up.
L32: Edward Corrie WR 753 lost to (16) Bruno Rodriguez (MEX) WR 860 by 3-6 6-1 1-0 ret.
I can understand why he might have wanted to play in this too (his last and biggest event as a student, I assume) but I doubt it was worth risking injury for. I hope whatever forced him to retire today isn't too serious.

Likewise hope that his injury isn't serious. But I wouldn't say the trip hadn't been worth risking injury for: there was, presumably, no reason to think the risk of injury there was any greater than it would have been in an obscure futures somewhere ... and the opportunity costs of missing a one-off chance to be in China with students from around the world in a huge event would have been much higher than the opportunity costs of missing said hypothetical obscure futures tournament (assuming that ranking points aren't the only things that matter).
Yes, all true, and I didn't mean to imply that there was a greater risk of injury at this tournament than at any other (I'm sure there wasn't), though there is an argument that once you're on the pro tour and making progress up the rankings, ranking points should be the main thing that matters.
Having said that, there's a lot to be said for keeping tennis fun too - a major reason why a lot of players still play County Cup, for example.

It could well be heat related - Caught a bit of the athletics and at the end of the 10,000m a couple of the athletes collapsed.
You were right, fortunately! From the LTA blog at http://www.lta.org.uk/fans-major-events/Tennis-blogs/World-University-Games/World-University-Games---Team-GB-Tennis/ - "The heat has proved an on-going challenge for the outdoor sport athletes at the Universiade in Shenzhen. At the Longgang Tennis Centre a combination of heat and illness caused Ed Corrie to retire from his mens singles second round match against Mexicos Bruno Rodriguez. Corrie won the first set 6-3 and battled on against the strong Mexican through to a third set before having to call it a day.
Were pretty sure that Corrie will be able to play tomorrow and hoping its just a 24 hour bug. He didnt eat enough food yesterday and just ran out of energy. I think he needs a good rest today and time to refuel, said team manager James Andell."
