Week 30 - Challenger (€30K+H) - Recanati, Italy - Hard

L32: Dan Cox WR 263 v Grégoire Burquier (FRA) WR 226

Burquier, who used to do a fair bit of Brit-bashing in GB Futures, won a 15K in France last week. The winner of this match is likely to face 2nd seed Zemlja.

RE: Week 29 - Challenger (€30K+H) - Recanati, Italy - Hard

Not a good draw for Dan in a week where he defending a fair few points. A first round defeat here would see him drop from British number 3 to British number 6 in the space of a week.

And the b*gger's carrying on in Italy at the moment where he left off here:  he's just taken the first set by 7-5 in just under 50 minutes. hmm

Seems to me that Dan is better off consistently doing well at futures

I do think it is right surely that Dan goes on and tests himself in challengers.  He has collected quite a few titles and a lot of ranking points in the last year in futures, but if he has real ambition ( which I am sure he does ), having bulit a base rankings points position that gives him entry to a run of challengers, I do think that is where he should be competing.

It was always quite likely to be a bit tough, given actually looking at who he has beaten and lost to in the last year does suggest he could be called overranked.

But I feel he did need to be testing himself consistently against better players and hopefully improve his game and still pick up decent points.

I have to agree with Indy on this. Players surely have to push themsleves to be the bast that they can be.

Tennis matters aside if you can make it on the challenger tour you can make a decent living out of the game, you can't do that playing futures alone. A 10K futures only pays 800 quid to the winner!
