So we have a home promotion playoff to look forward to in September
Here is some info about our next opponents:
Hungary have beaten a Baggy-free Cyprus 5-0 (all in straight sets) and Belarus 3-2 (from 1-2 down) to get this far. They have been in EAZ Group 2 since 2004, having dropped down to G3 for a year in 2003. They have only reached the World Group twice, in 1994 and 1996, though they also reached an equivalent stage before the Wold Group came into existence.
GBR v HUN - H2H
We have played Hungary 3 times, but this will be the first time we have played them at home - the rule about alternating did not come into force until 1970.
Jun 1929 - GB, with Bunny Austin in the team, won 3-2 on clay in Budapest May 1966 - GB (Roger Taylor, Mike Sangster & Bobby Wilson) won 3-2 on clay in Budapest May 1993 - HUN won 3-2 on clay in Budapest against Chris Wilkinson, Jeremy Bates & Mark Petchey
The same four players have made up the team in both of Hungary's previous matches this year. In highlighting their DC records indoors, I am assuming the tie will be played indoors, but of course previous September ties have sometimes been outdoors as well. I will update the rankings shown after the USO.
Attila Balázs - DOB 27 Sep 1988 (age 22), right-handed
WR 224 (CH 153 last Oct), DWR 666 (CH 312 in Sep 2009)
DC singles 8-2 (but 0-2 indoors), doubles 2-0
Only played a Brit once in singles, beating Morgan Phillips 5 & 2 on clay in Croatia last year.
Adám Kellner - DOB 1 Aug 1986 (will be aged 25), right-handed
WR 249 (CH 222 in May), DWR 835 (CH 632 in Nov 2010)
DC singles 5-6 (3-3 indoors), doubles 0-0
5-1 v Brits in singles (wins v Feaver, Thornley, Flanagan, Banks, Miotto, lost to Marray in Jamaica in 2003)
Kornel Bardoczky - DOB 5 Jul 1978 (age 33), right-handed
WR 714 (CH 254 in Jul 2004), DWR 870 (CH 130 in May 2004), so used to be a decent Challenger-level player
DC singles 17-13 (4-2 indoors), doubles 12-5
1-1 v Brits in singles, both against Alan Mackin, but the last meeting was in 2003. He beat Jamie Baker in doubles in 2007.
Márton Fucsovics - DOB 8 Feb 1992 (age 19), right-handed
WR 682 (= CH), DWR 1321 (CH 1300 in April), junior world no. 1 in July last year, having won junior Wimbledon
DC singles 1-1 (0-1 indoors), doubles 0-2
1-0 v Brits in singles (a retirement by Josh Milton in China earlier this year), though he has played Brits many more times in juniors, the most recent being a 5 & 3 loss to Oliver Golding at last year's Youth Olympics.
He is the only member of the team who lists his favourite surface as grass on ITF, the other three all say clay.

The Hungarian Tennis Federation twitter has just announced that the September tie will be held in Glasgow - at least, I'm pretty sure that's what "Glasgow-ban kerül megrendezésre a szeptemberi britek elleni Davis Kupa meccs." means.
My guess is it's a misunderstanding and they are just jumping the gun, but given that the tie is so close, I wonder if they have been tipped the wink that it is likely to be there. If Braehead (which many of the AM.com mob have been complaining about as being full of jobsworths) is free, they might have felt it easier to just book that again instead of looking round for somewhere else.
I wouldn't take it too seriously yet though.

steven the Scottish newspapers reckon it will be Braehead if Andy plays. the vast majority of the team will be Scottish lol it is a very cramped seating area with over zealous stewards from group 4 etc there I think they think they are dealing with prisoners being transferred to prison as they have no sense of humour!

Yes, that last bit is the kind of thing I've seen a lot of complaints about.
The Scottish newspapers could well be predicting it on no more info than we have. I'd be happy to have a trip to Scotland, but maybe somewhere a bit nicer and more easily accessible to a rail station. I don't know if such a place exists though!

We haven't used the NIA for some years now. I doubt it'd be a popular choice. If it were used, would a tie like this fill it or, would it be playing to a half empty hall?
I hope that Leon isnt just playing these tie's in scotland almost as a bribe for Andy to play, at the end of the day the team is GB. 0 Thinking about it, Scotland against England would be a very even contest, probably decided in dubs! (Murray, Baker, Murray, Fleming) vs (Ward, Skupski, Hutchins, Evo)
The Murraytennis forum has again reserved a block of seating for fans to go along and cheer on the GB team. As a group we get a much better price for the 3 day tickets (Ł46 incl p&p) and an opportunity for some concerted cheering!
If anyone on this board would like to join us please send me a PM a.s.a.p.
I suspect Murray's involvement will somewhat depend on his US open result. Although the cynic in me is asking whether he will feel he has to play in order to be eligible for the Olympics next year (can anyone answer me). Whilst on the topic what is the requirement - how much time to Fed & Rafa have to "make themselves available" given they haven't played DC recently? (forgive me if I'm suffering short-term memory loss and they played at the beginning of the year).

Andy doesn't have to play again for Olympic qualification purposes given that he played in July. Also in July, Fed played for Switzerland against Portugal and Nole for Serbia against Sweden (albeit only the doubles rubber), while Rafa played for Spain against Belgium in March, so they're all covered.

According to the Davis Cup website the teams are due to be announced next Tuesday 6th September (10 days ahead of the tie starting) and after Round 4 of the USO!!!
However, I just looked at the Hungarian Tennis Federation website and there is a Headline scrolling banner with the following - which indicates George Balazs would play instead of Fucsovics.
Gyorgy Balazs is aged 26, now UNR and with a career high of 480 in July 2008.
HAVE AGAINST THE BRITISH TEAM Balázs Attila, Kellner Ádám, Bardóczky Kornél és Balázs György alkotja a magyar csapatot a szeptemberi Davis Kupa találkozón. Attila Balazs, Adam Kellner, Bardóczky Kornel George Balazs and form the Hungarian Davis Cup team for the September meeting.

GB team named as (according to the DC site and if I remember right, up to two players can be changed before the draw)
Andy Murray James Ward Colin Fleming Ross Hutchins
That suggests Andy probably won't play all three days, in which case this definitely seems like the right team to me.
Hungarian team as given by Sally above.
As far as I can decipher from http://www.mtsztenisz.hu/?article_hid=9499, Fucsovics would have been picked but did not want to play - they seem to bemoan the fact that DC is not a priority for a young up-and-coming player - now where have we heard that before?
Current rankings are:
A Kellner WR 218 / D673 A Balazs WR 246 / D1010 K Bardoczky WR 828 / D720 G Balázs UNR / D-UNR
While we should be clear favourites to win every rubber, with two of their players being in the top 250, it's far from certain we will win 5-0 and if Andy ended up unable to play for any reason, it could get quite 'interesting', though obviously I hope it doesn't!
