Here's hoping for some good news

"Today is a really good day. My first hit in over a year.  I honestly didn't think I'd make it back on court after the last surgery. It's taken ridiculous amounts of rehab and hard work to get to this point so I'm very proud of myself today.

Ps you can stop leaving comments asking if I'm retired now thnx"

If she had intended to retire she would have announced it long before now. I just hope her body doesn't break down again.

If she stays fit what are her chances of a WC or QWC for Wimbledon?

Great to see this - hoping she'll be back playing tournaments soon.

Yes good to see her back on a court and hopefully she will be able to move on to a full comeback but Laura needs to take her time and not rush things so that she gives herself every opportunity.

Best of luck to her and it would be great to be able to be supporting her in matches again at some point in 2021.

That is great news and she looks very happy about it. Just to see the short video of her clean hitting reminded me of why we liked watching her playing (some of the time!).

Got to be honest, not a big fan, primarily because I was at the junior final she won and there was little to no variety to her game however I have nothing but admiration for the way she has stuck to it, she must love the game because she has a pretty decent career in media now and it would be so easy to give up and focus on that.

To put it into perspective Laura will be 27 next month. So even if she manages to regain a top 50 ranking at the same rate as Dan Evans did after his ban and it's a very big IF given the virus, her injury history and the effort Dan had to put in, she'll be pretty much the same age Jo Konta is now. Does Laura have the same drive and motivation as a Dan Evans or Azarenka, I wonder?

I have loads of time for any player still giving it a crack after the problems Laura has had. I really hope she is the tennis equivalent of Peter Reid. It would be fabulous to see her playing competitive tennis again

In John Wertheim's latest podcast for SI, he speaks to Max Eisenbud about tennis in general but Max ends up talking about Laura a little. Would encourage a listen (the podcast is always very good).
The summary is - Laura still wants to return and is attempting to do so but they're also (understandably) talking about what happens if the hip doesn't hold up and her post tennis career - broadcasting, baking etc.

Max isn't universally loved but I have to say I'm impressed that he is very much still Laura's agent. Given her lengthy injuries, most agents would've dropped her or given her to a junior agent. Max gets my respect for sticking with Laura and helping her to build a post tennis career.

I was a bit surprised Konta got on Celebrity GBBO before Laura who seems to take it very seriously.

Why should Laura  be on Celebrity GBBO before Jo. Jo's name means  more to the  general public  now watching the programme and presenters such as Sandi Tostwig. Unless you are a tennis fan the general public  watching probably wouldn't remember who Laura was.

She's still more famous than some of the other contestants they had on.

Not good news ......... I fear this may be the end of her playing career.

A third hip surgery last week.

The original is on her Instagram page

"For my birthday this year I got crutches

Sadly I had to undergo a 3rd operation on my hip last week. I was desperate to carry on with training but was in so much pain that surgery was unavoidable. Following the advice of the surgeon and other doctors, a decision has been made to prioritise the long term health of my hip. Where that leaves me with tennis I'm really not sure, it will depend on how things heal in the next few months. More than anything my goal is to have a happy, pain free life. This whole process has been incredibly mentally draining and I'm so grateful to the physios/family/friends that have been there to guide me through it (socially distanced of course)."

Must be particularly upsetting for her when she finally seemed to be making progress.
