..........Glastonbury Festival; Yahoo Wireless Festival; Henley Festival............

All I'm saying is "Be Careful!": She hasn't won anything yet.

I will admit that that fact does worry me a bit............but having followed Laura it is more than likely that the first thing she does win will be either  a Premier event or a GS LOL!

All this does worry me too, I must admit, for much the same reasons. (though not the Mirror article - for all we know, she was just in the vicinity and not even at the party, or even if she was at the party, that's her business and there's nothing at all to imply that she was getting drunk too!)

Tabloids would NEVER try to twist the truth!! smile. However, this story has been picked up by a raft of red tops. All of them were being complimentary about Laura (she IS perfect newspaper material), but they all made the point that it was 3am!

And what time would that be in San Diego where she is at the moment?

I think you're being a bit harsh.  I'm sure Andy went to loads of Miami Heat games and probably lots of Boxing cards before he won anything.  How the players choose to relax in their free time is up to them, so if Laura is a big music fan then there's nothing wrong with going to a few Festivals during her limited time at home with no tournaments on the schedule for a couple of weeks.

Her high profile makes it unfortunate that the press will photograph her leaving nightclubs early in the morning.  At the end of the day she is just 19 and the majority of young people, professional athletes or not, stay out late during their time off.  At least Laura was pictured leaving on her own 2 feet and not during an actual tournament!

Also there is no evidence that Laura was 'hanging out with this sort of company' (successful music stars and reality tv personalities) other than both being pictured entering and leaving individually.  If the press are already camped out there then I'd imagine it's quite a popular place, so not really that much of a coincidence that both Laura and other celebrities were photographed there.

Since reaching the 4th round at Wimby and getting a huge amount of publicity, the tabloids are now after any photographs etc., of her exiting night clubs etc.,. She was not drunk and for all we know, she probably went clubbing previously without the press being aware of it and being photographed.
Last night before her trip to the US so being up late actually will help with jet lag.
She clearly enjoys her life off the court in a different way to Andy but she doesn't drink that much. Obviously now she's living away from her parents and is living in someways a student life without the study. As far as we know she has been training hard during this period but relaxing by going out instead of say e.g playing video games at home etc.,
My sense of Laura is that she knows what is expected of a professional sportswomen but by no means is going to live the life of a nun.
I'm pretty confident she'll get the balance right, but it also wouldn't surprise if she had to learn a harsh lesson along the way.

I completely agree. Work hard, play hard is absolutely fine! Andy loves his sport, Laura loves her music.

I think you'll find at the age of 19 Andy had already won a stack of Futures and Challengers and was also starting to win ATPs. Big difference. Despite this difference, I suspect he didn't have a need (or a desire) for a sizeable marketing machine behind him at that point in his career. Too distracting.

Even if he's out at the boxing, the basketball, etc - Andy generally tries to keep a lowish profile, even now......and as a teenager I don't ever recall him ever being in the newspapers when out and about.....he admits to being very boring!!

All I'm saying is.....be careful.....the next 2 years are probably the most important ones in defining where Laura ends up in tennis.

The thing is Laura is by far more interesting to the British tabloids than Andy ever was simply by the fact of being female no

This on her Facebook page for all her young fans to see.

Ah, not being a Facebooker, I hadn't seen that. I'm glad she lets her young fans see that it's hard work as well as play - I'm sure she does work very hard (even with her level of natural talent, you can't reach the top 40 as a teenager without a huge amount of effort) but sometimes get the impression she thinks it's uncool to admit to it.

Obviously it's up to Laura what she tells people about, but given how many girls probably want to be her (which is brilliant - much better that they want to be her than just wanting to be famous for doing next to nothing), the more she manages to get across the impression of "you have to work really, really hard but it's all worth it," the better

She seems to have her head screwed on the right way too, in all the important ways, so the worry is simply that she comes under too much pressure / temptation to do the celeb stuff in a period that could end up defining how far she goes in the game. Not her fault (quite the opposite) but still a concern.

3am is the name of the column, not the time the photograph was taken!

True for the Mirror gossip page. But the Mail, the Star and the Metro all talk about her leaving the bar at 3am....

this is a joke right???
henley where she was snapped with notorious ravers ermm Raymond blanc and Matt pinsent
music festivals where she was in amongst 50K plus people minimum all doing the same thing. crowd that almost certainly also had junior doctors, air traffic controllers, airline pilots in. all responible jobs -all OFF duty
it aint china whites at 3 on a saturday morning

here are people whose official biografies tell of at least one late night out: Michael jordan, Michael schumacher, Joe montana, Andre Agassi, Haile gebrselassie, Steve waugh
those just thee ones i can think of that i know of - they all did pretty well

you go saying "all i'm saying is be careful" your on the same level as the red tops 3am and wotnot that you attack.
also seems you got no respect for laura neither, implying that she is in danger of stuffing it up and becoming a party girl. Do you really think she isnt smart enough to have known the dangers or is too naieve? she aint some big brother wannabe.

because ALL you're saying isn't just "be careful". it's insinuating at all sorts of other stuff. its like you're lobbing smoke bombs at her and then saying look no smoke without fire

Korriban would never do that! He just states the facts as they are without interpretation or emphasis. He's a salesman after all.

Laura is definitely at risk of not fulfilling her potential - but no more so than any other youngster. It always fascinates me with tennis that its the one sport where players can get away with totally different mentalities and still all achieve fantastic results.

By that I mean, on one side there is the likes of Murray, Hewitt, Safina, Heather, Ferrer, Nadal, Sharapova, Baltacha who all have incredible focus and work ethic and totally maximise their games.

On the other side there are the likes of Safin, Serena, Laura, Gasquet, Nalbandian who all have ridiculous talent but arguably not quite the same work ethic as the other group.

The second group of players are obviously not lazy at all, but there are definitely players who push themselves to their limits to maximise their games while other players seem more easily prone to off-court controversy and distractions whilst (at times) giving a more au-fait attitude towards their tennis. It is part of what makes the sport so fascinating, but considering the amount of brand endorsement and off-court things the top players get up to, I would say that tennis seems to be one of the few sports where players can get a good balance of both with the right approach.

Conclusion: let Laura spend her private time how she wants and let's worry about her when her results start sliding. At the moment she is looking likely to be seeded at majors and thats when the real damage can come. biggrin
