RE: Laura Robson

Laura has posted on Instagram this morning.

"One more op for luck... After months of struggling through all the rehab and treatments available, a decision was made this week to have another hip surgery & try fix the pain for good. Very much hope to be back on court soon but in the meantime I can't wait to walk my dog without limping. Small victories"

Laura was on the radio this morning. She advised she is currently doing cardio and bike work and plans to try and get back on tour, but gave no timescale.

Big article by Stu Fraser in The Times about Laura

https://www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/sport/once-hailed-as-future-stars-of-british-tennis-heather-watson-is-on-the-rise-but-laura-robson-has-stalled-0v7zlk0wh

The first two paragraphs for those unable to access it

"October 26, 2011. In the modest surroundings of an indoor tennis centre in Barnstaple, a 17-year-old Laura Robson plays a 19-year-old Heather Watson for the first time. Such is the level of interest in this second-round match of a third-tier tournament that Sky Sports News has sent cameras to the Devon town to broadcast live updates in between segments on Sir Alex Fergusons latest press conference and John Terrys racism row.

Robson is fortunate to be involved. The previous day, she was a set down when her opponent, an Australian qualifier called Johanna Konta, retired because of a stomach muscle injury. But she makes the most of her opportunity to defeat Watson 6-1, 3-6, 6-3. Spectators ponder the more glamorous locations on the tour that these two British teenagers are destined to meet each other in the future."

This was an interesting article and I had a look back at who else played in the event. Apart from the British trio mentioned above the tournament  also featured Caroline Garcia, Ttajana Malek, Kiki Bertens and Alison Riske who are still making their presence felt today. Anne Keothavong went on to win it.  Remarkable that they never played each other again.  Don't think we've got such exciting prospects at the moment.

Oddly, the link only took me back to the first page of this thread.  Interesting to read though smile

It works for me, too, but then, I have a subscription, which is probably the reason why.
