I thought initially he had success with Pav and Rezai has only gone backwards since the split with PM at the end of last year.

The key word their is "initially". Pav was successful to start with because, like de Brito, she just blew everyone off court. But as she started to climb, her game was found wanting. She was completely one dimensional and had nothing to go to when it didn't work.

She sacked him, got a new coach, and by the end of the year was making waves with a more rounded, complete game. The Pav we have today is nothing like the Pav Mouratoglou was creating from 07 through to summer 09.

Rezai and de Brito were made and broken by what Mouratoglou believes is the ideal player. Both are where they are now because of what he made them. They have nothing else to offer other than to smack the ball as hard as they can, because that is all he ever teaches.

Whether or not they can find new coaches who can instill good technique, finesse and a more rounded game like Pav did, only time will tell. But if you want to know why Rezai and de Brito broke through for about 6months and then began fading away, it lies with the method, technique and ideas of one man.

So I think we agree that if he has any positive impact it is only short term. I remember him slating MLDB in a blog a while back, saying she would never make it as a tennis player, so hopefully he won't do anything similar with Laura.

I think Laura most needs a coach who will help her with nutrition and psychology. Djoko, Bally, Sabine Liskicki (I think), and James Ward to name a few, all attribute much of their recent success to either or both of these kinds of help. Some of Laura's health problems would definitely be managed better with a stricter and healthier diet. Also her self deprecating monologues, during play, whilst quite endearing, perpetuate a negative mindset which is unlikely to lead to success. Anne does the same; they both could do with getting out of that habit, in my opinion.

What's happened to Robbo recently, and for that matter Hev.

Laura is in Las Vegas, or near abouts right now, training with the Adidas team in preparation for playing in Indian Wells qualifying. Draw out Sunday for play starting Monday I believe. Heather will also be in qualifying. i presume she is in Bradenton, Florida right now,but I haven't noticed any communications from her. Others probably know more.

With Laura not having really had a close season at all with her stress fracture issue, I would think more practice and training away from the circuit for a couple of weeks or so is exactly what she needs to help build up her consistency.

Let me be the first - and knowing the other people on this board, probably the only - person to freely admit:

I HAVEN'T GOT A CLUE WHETHER MILES MCLAGAN WILL BE A GOOD COACH FOR LAURA ROBSON.

Nor have I, but it would be a bit of a boring discussion board if nobody was allowed to speculate ...

Miles candidly admits that he knows very little about Laura or women's tennis in general (yet!)
