There's no doubt Laura has the best draw this week, a minimum of a QF spot should be her target. Mel has a marginally tougher draw but is not without chances either. Mel renews her partnership with Timi Babos in the doubles, Laura not taking part. Neither playing singles tomorrow but Mel starts off her doubles campaign. There is an exceptionally good livefeed for this tournament for the stadium court, and with both our players playing Americans there must be a good chance we will see them in action on Wednesday.
Mel and Timi won their doubles in straight sets, no score as of yet. Mel first up and Laura up third on the same court, not on the televised court sadly.
Robbo on the OOP for tomorrow and will play a LL Naydenova, third on stadium court , play starting at 2pm BST. So a chance to see her on the livestream.
R1 : Mel South WR 273 lost to Julia Boserup (USA) WR 302 6 - 2 6 - 3
R2 : Laura Robson WR 269 vs (LL) Aleksandrina Naydenova (BUL) WR 491 (CH)
Naydenova is a 19 yo who has played almost exclusively on clay this year and has won 3 tournaments at 10K level. Has wins this year against top 200 player Castano (COL) and top 300 player Costas-Moreira (ESP). Her 7 - 5 6 - 4 R1 win here against the no 4 seed Julia Cohen (USA) WR 169 appears to be her best win of the year in ranking terms.
