L32: Alex Ward WR 495 v (4) Hiroki Kondo (JPN) WR 336
L32: (8) Josh Milton WR 369 v (WC) Gao Wan (CHN) WR 854
L32: (3) Dan Evans WR 285 v (Q) Noh Sang-Woo (KOR) WR 1728
Dan and Josh are in the same quarter, along with three qualifiers, two WCs and (unfortunately) Fucsovics, who reached the semis last week. Alex's opponent lost in R1 last week, but to the eventual winner.

The Korean diid lose "just" 6 - 4 6 - 4 to Heliovaara ( FIN ) WR 278 last week in China F3 in the 2nd round as he picked up his 2nd ever ranking point. So he now has 3 !
He is an 18yo who hasn't played that many tournaments and did actually compete without much success in a couple of challengers towards the end of last year and was at least competitive with some much higher ranked players in some Futures.
But his highest ranking in the ITF Junior World rankings was 107 so all in all I'm generally struggling really to make very much of a case other than the Korean is no doubt a bit underranked.
As a one-off result I wouldn't be getting worried about it. Just wonder how it came about.

SF: (8) Josh Milton WR 370 v Im Kyu-tae (KOR) WR 623
Im definitely is under-ranked - he reached a career high of 160 in Nov 2009, a few months after upsetting Boggo at the Tallahassee Challenger. He then suffered a big setback this time last year, when he got injured in the semis of the Manta Challenger (which accounts for most of his remaining points) - he only came back playing Futures about a month ago and this is the first week he has won back to back matches.
Josh has beaten him in their one previous meeting though, 3 & 2 on grass in Nottingham Challenger qualifying in 2009, a month after Im's win against the Bogster and 6 months before Im hit his career high.

Good to see Josh picking up a few wins now after a slow start to the year. Last week's semi final appearance should have him quite close to his CH of 353, and this week's should already certainly take him past it and most likely into the top 350 for the first time.
And at least a Brit got the 8 points ( plus hopefully ) out of the Dan / Josh quarter,
