Week 15 Challenger - Johannesburg, South Africa - $100K+H (Hard)

Chris Eaton turns up in Quals here as expected and will hopefully join Dan Cox in the main draw.

Chris is seeded 6 and his first two rounds look simple enough. The other seed in his section is the 2nd seed, Alexander Sadecky who Chris beat 4 and 4 in Bath this year.

QR1: (6) Chris Eaton 544 vs Reinhardt Trollip (RSA) UNR

If Chris was hoping to meet any questionable women in South Africa, he seems to have got his wish. wink

(I'll get my coat ... ashamed)

So pleased to see Coxy play Challengers at last. Whether he does well or not, this is the only way to the top in my opinion.

Chris beat Trollip 61 61 and then Sanchai Ratiwana 3 & 3.
It is Sadecky in the final qualifying round

Cox had drawn 4th seed Izak Van der Marwe (WR150) but if he can win it will be a qualifier in R2.

QR2: (q6) Chris Eaton WR 544 beat Sanchai Ratiwatana (THA) UNR by 3 & 3 smile.gif

FQR: (q6) Chris Eaton WR 544 v (q2) Alexander Sadecky (SUI) WR 356

Chris is 2-0 v Sadecky, having beaten him 8-6 in a 3rd set t/b at Bagneres-de-Bigorre in 2008 and 4 & 4 in Bath last month. Their CHs are 317 and 313 recspectively.

Dan has a tough one in R1:

L32: Dan Cox WR 274 v (4) Izak van der Merwe (RSA) WR 150 (CH 140 in Feb)

Beating Sadecky would mean Chris defends the 5 points he made for qualifying here last year and would give him just over a $1000 for his efforts.

Hard to tell with this one, Van Der Merwe has lost 6 of his last 7 matches with his only win in that time being to a guy who was ranked in the 700's. He seems to thrive in Jo'burg though making the semis of the weak ATP 250 and the final here last year. He did lose to 18 year old american Kudla too this year, who isn't having the best of years. So lets hope the Jo'burg precedent doesnt come into play in Coxy's match and the fact he's on a losing streak does!

Also hope Chris qualifies and gets the Q v Q slot!

FQR: (q6) Chris Eaton WR 544 beat (q2) Alexander Sadecky (SUI) WR 356 by 6-4 6-7(6) 7-6(6) biggrin

... and he's got the Q v Q match against the lowest-ranked qualifier! smile.gif

L32: (Q) Chris Eaton WR 544 v (Q) Stanislav Vovk (RUS) WR 618

Chris continues his good form biggrin

FQR (q6) Chris Eaton WR 544 beats (q2) Alexander Sadecky (SUI) WR 356 6-4 6-7(6) 7-6(6)

He also gets a good draw for his troubles and plays a fellow qualifier who is ranked below him, but did beat the no1 seed in qualies in straight sets
