There are 2 players in qualifying with a ranking higher than both our guys (presumably late entries). Maybe hold that 'good draw' thought for now.

Turns out to be ok after all - they've both got unranked qualifiers:

L32: Myles Blake WR 873 v (Q) Matthew Hicks (AUS) UNR
L32: Burnham Arlidge WR 969 v (Q) William Boe-Wiegaard (USA) UNR

Hicks has a CH of 1485 from April 2008 but last qualified for a Futures event in February that year. Boe-Wiegaard is 27, has never been ranked in singles or doubles and this is the first ATP-ranked event he has qualified since May 2009.

I'm stunned:

L16:  Burnham Arlidge WR 969 defeated (4) Vishnu Vardhan (IND) WR 357 by 7-6(4) 6-4! biggrin

QF:  Burnham Arlidge WR 969 vs (6) Erik Chvojka (CAN) WR 394

If he can take out the third seed in straight sets, the sixth should be a piece of cake... pray.gif

Aldridge is quite competent on grass from what i can remember, He beat Bruges-Davi in qualifying last year in a tournament, where i suspect most of these guys will never have experienced playing on the grass

I asked the guy who's tweeting from Mildura if Burnham's QF had finished, and he replied:

"@GBtennis pretty sure Arlidge won 6-0 7-6(5)... Don't be shattered if that's not quite right though!"

That would be a pretty stunning result if true!

True it is and I am delighted for Burnham. He only has 8pts to his name (4 of which drop off in the next 3 weeks) so to collect another 8 here will be a massive boost. His 2nd semi I think, his first at 15k level.

If he'd have nicked that 1st set TB could have been a different story. Still, fantastic week, well done Burnham!
