Good to see Naomi ssems OK after her retiral in Sutton. Though having played quite a few matches recently and retired from her last one she would no doubt have been happier to have slipped into the main draw rather than be the q1 seed.
Rather closer sets than might have been expected, but at least she's through.
Naomi sure seems to like to keeping playing. This will be her 5th week in a row, with 17 matches in these first 4 weeks up to and including her retiral after one set last week. She played in 30 weeks WTA / ITF last year.
Also I have looked and since the start of March last year she has only three times missed at least two successive tournament weeks. That was after Wimbledon qualifying last year, when she had 4 weeks off ( assuming you do allocate qualifying to the week before the Wimbledon main draw started ), her "close season" which was just 3 weeks and a 2 week period in late August / early September.

JoKo in tough section, the Impaler in the second round if in the unlikely event of an upset in the first round. Note for Indy that Mlad won the Sutton event so clearly back in top form( finally showing HC form in a ranking tournament).
All 3 players are in action tomorrow: Joko and Naomi in singles starting at 1.00, and Mel is playing doubles, 2nd match on court 2, approx 2.30. Live scoring should be available here -
