L16: David Rice WR 487 beat (5) Fabrice Martin (FRA) WR 421 by 4 & 2 biggrin

QF: David Rice WR 487 v (2) Andrei Kumantsov (RUS) WR 362 (CH 261 last Sep)

Kumantsov appears to have only played a Brit once before, but he beat Jamie Baker 3 & 3 in the Dominican Republic a couple of years back, so this may be where Dr No's run ends.

Nice result.

At the risk of regretting the answer to this: where does Davids nickname of Dr. No come from?

As far as I'm aware it's a combination of his love of Bond films and the acronym David Rice Number One but I can't remember when it started getting used or who made the link between the two!

Also, we're not even sure it's really one of his nicknames ... somebody once said it was and it's kind of stuck. Quicker to write than "special fried"

David was in the doubles with our old friend, Rudy Coco, but they failed to progress beyond the QF, where they were beaten by the Polish third seeds, Gawron & Panfil, by 2-0 retired.  I assume that Coco was the reason for the retirement, as David's singles QF is on today's OoP.
