R2: MOORE, Tara (GBR) WR 347 v (2) ZHANG, Ling (HKG) WR 229 or (WC) YANG, Zhaoxuan (CHN) WR 1068
Zhang (since I imagine that's who it will be) beat Anna Smith and EWS last year but has lost to Katie and Mel in the past. Very tough, but Tara has a habit of playing way above her ranking when she is on form in the same way that she plays way below it when she isn't.

The ranking and player may be correct, but Tara isn't playing the number 4 seed. However, if Tara wins the QF, she may then face the number 4 seed Jing Jing Lu, sister of Jia-Jing Lu.
That's a very good win from Tara and hopefully she can at least reach the semis
I read various comments about Tara's consistency and that certainly has been a problem in the past. But to me, resultswise from the end of July last year she had a very consistent final few months of the season. Her one particularly bad week was in the Sunderland 10K and she lost to Samantha Murray in R2 ( Samantha looks a decent prospect but shouldn't be beating Tara ) after a sticky R1. On that one I would say that she left little doubt beforehand that she wasn't feeling great going into the tournament and although at the time her coach kind of wasn't letting her off with it, that appeared maybe to me more like "tough love" and was probably related to how she was indeed feeling. I believe philwrig witnessed that match.
In general as I say, she has more lately been impressively consistent and to my mind needs to keep that up while working hard to steadily raise her level.
Tara had that very consistent run of 6 consecutive tournaments where she picked up a dozen or more ranking points between late July and late October (one 10K win for 12, 3 25K QFs for 14-15 each, two 75K L16s for 14 each) before tailing off a bit in Nov/Dec and in her first event this year. It's very nice to see her back in double figures again
She has 9 points to come off from this tournament last year (Q+L16) at the end of the AO, so today's win ensures she will move up.
