A little odd since there must have always been a very good chance that Ross would have got in with Lipsky but maybe when not definite Ross decided to stay in Oz and let Lipsky team up with Zelenay.
Pity though especially since Ross was defending 150 points from reaching the Sydney final in this week last year.
Anyway, hope Jamie and partner now take out Lipsky and partner.
I see from Ross's twitter that he's having good fun practising in Melbourne : "Just hit with @andy_murray on Rod Laver..loved it..got my behind kicked by a scandal of a good player obviously! Roof was closed was awesome"

R1: Santiago González (MEX) & Jamie Murray defeated Scott Lipsky & Igor Zelenay (USA/SVK) by 7-6(10) 3-6 [10-3]!
QF: Santiago González (MEX) & Jamie Murray vs (4) Nicolás Almagro & Marc López (ESP/ESP)
Great win for the boys, if a bit of a battle! 45 ranking points guaranteed for reaching the QF. Anyone know how that benefits Jamie at this early stage of the season?
P.S. It's probably of no consequence at this stage, especially since it's the other half of the draw, but the top seeds, Lindstedt & Tecau, appear to have pulled out, as the curiously named Kiwi brothers, Jose (rubin) & Mikal (oliver) Statham, in on the back of a WC, have just lost to Fabio Fognini & Pere Riba (ITA/ESP) by 1 & 3!

Jamie currently WR 60 on 1313 points and defending 80 points from this week last year.
With Ross not competing this week and missing out on defending 150 points, he will drop back to 1300 points.
So if Jamie wins his QF, with the 90 points for that he will advance to 1323 points and will at least be able to say he is back as GB No 1 ranked doubles player. Thanks in no small measure to a little help from bro

Cheers, Indy. Thought it might be you who helped me out! Unfortunately, the fourth seeds had a bit too much for Jamie & partner, who lost by 4 & 4.
