Biggest ranking movers 2010

Reading something philwrig wrote in the other thread about Female player of the year got me thinking about who has made the biggest % jump in rankings this year. The results (so far), as per stevens table, are as follows:

Top 10 climbers

+68.4% Watson, Heather (UP from 554 to 176)
+49.0% Robson, Laura (UP from 403 to 206)
+40.3% Moore, Tara (UP from 619 to 370)
+36.3% Whybourn, Lisa (UP from 522 to 333)
+34.9% Baltacha, Elena (UP from 84 to 55)
+32.0% Fitzpatrick, Anna (UP from 748 to 509)
+30.5% Allan, Jennifer (NEW from UNR to 800)
+30.3% Smith, Anna (UP from 434 to 303)
+22.2% Broady, Naomi (UP from 298 to 232)
+20.0% Slater, Nicola (UP from 1050 to 840)

Top 10 fallers
-28.3% Borwell, Sarah (OUT from 910 to UNR)
-35.1% Windley, Jade (DOWN from 642 to 867)
-35.7% Elliott, Amanda (DOWN from 721 to 978)
-42.7% Brown, Danielle (DOWN from 549 to 783)
-46.9% Khan, Natasha (OUT from 795 to UNR)
-54.8% South, Melanie (DOWN from 189 to 292)
-55.1% Thomas, Elizabeth (DOWN from 700 to 1085)
-83.1% Gent, Georgie (DOWN from 262 to 479)
-105.7% O'Brien, Katie (DOWN from 88 to 180)
-150.2% Curtis, Jade (DOWN from 332 to 829)
As most of us would have hoped this time last year, Heather and Laura are top. Tara has pleased and surprised most of us with her climb. Elena has 'only' risen 29 places, but they these were the positions that requires the hard graft to be put in. Great to see Fitzpatrick fully fit from injury as well.

It goes without saying that Mel and Katie's rankings dip is disappointing. Most of us would have hoped they would push on, or at least consolidate.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks for the above analysis and the very colourful presentation Maza.
My top 3 performers would be Heather, Bally and Laura in that order, with honourable mentions going to Anna S , Tara and Anna F.
On the fallers side Annie K, Katie, Cav , Mel and Naomi B will be to varying degrees disappointed with their seasons.

I had hoped to see Georgie pushing on towards the top 100 by now but she hasn't played since a $25K in March when she beat Heather 3 and 0 to qualify and then beat Ditty, Lertcheewakarn and Ferguson before losing narrowly in the SF to Zhang?
It seems she might have hurt her ankle again, does anyone know any more? It would be good to see her entering tournaments again early next year.

Yes, Phil, that's the top 3 in the same order that I had been thinking.  I then was kind of thinking was that fair on Laura bearing in mind still her age, the restrictions still on her and the number of much higher ranking players she has beaten this year.

But I think I do hold to that.  Heather has had a great year, as we have said smashing expectations and showing great match play in winning titles and grinding out so many 3 setters.  Elena has of course done her progress at a much higher level and to reach the top 50 was a huge achievement.  So I would say that they are my top 3 and on balance stick to that order.

Poor Naomi B is of course not a faller on the year. And in fact her recent decent form yielding 54 points in total from Shrewsbury and Glasgow should allow her ( even with no more points earned ) to still make a small gain on the year even after her 74 points come off from her 3 tournament wins from late last year.  She will still no doubt be rather disappointed that she has not really kicked on and made a much more substantial rise up the rankings this year following last year with its 4 months out then these really encouraging late titles.

I've just read on another forum that this weeks rankings are the official year end rankings because the WTA season/Fed cup is over. Is that true?

Interesting. I don't know the exact details, but I was already under the impression that the WTA season ending rankings were from before the year-end and that they start their race from before the start of the next year.

Naomi Broady's stats  ( http://www.wtatour.com/page/Player/Stats/0,,12781~13152,00.html ) actually kind of show this since her 2009 season ending ranking of 444 is clearly before her 3 title triumphs at the end of November and in December last year, and her race ranking of 231 is very close to her actual ranking of 232, indicating it does include these title wins from last year.

No reason though that we here shouldn't consider actual year-end if that's the wavelength we're all on and the basis I presume for all Steven's stats.
