Week 44 - ITF ($25) - Kalgoorlie, Australia - Hard

Mel has a decent round 1 draw, but she's in the same quarter as top seed Arina Rodionova, though the Russian has been injured recently I believe. Lisa will potentially face 4th seed Begu in round 2.

R1: SOUTH, Melanie (GBR) 6 vs SANDERS, Storm (AUS) WC
R1: WHYBOURN, Lisa (GBR) vs Q/LL

Encouraging, QF at least for Mel because Sumner is basically a walkover.

Every now and again you've got to show a bit of confidence in your players, Mel is playing well, but if she does lose I will accept full responsiblity.

Oh dear, wasn't expecting that  cry   I see Dominikovic is not that many places higher in the rankings than the younger Sumner, so hope Mel OK  hmm.gif

Pretty sure she will be though, Mel in decent form and as was said earlier she dispatched Ashling  6 - 0  6 - 0  in Port Pirie a month ago.

What's Dominikovic CH? Perhaps the weather played a part?

Daniella Dominikovic has a career high within the top 350 from 2005, and has only played intermittently over the past few years - she only regained her ranking the other week. She took Mel to three sets in a QF match a few weeks ago too, so obviously is in decent form, so was always going to be a tough opponent for Lisa to start off with.
